(S02E07) Tonight's episode was about coveting neighbors' wives (well, maybe not wives, but general coveting). Sam was coveting Andi. Sock was coveting Kristen. Ben ... has a relationship and is the most stable of the crew at the moment, but that isn't saying much.I did like Nina's line: "Two months ago, I kidnapped you and forced you to be my boyfriend." She reminds me a lot of Anya from Buffy.
If you can go to Hell just for thinking about coveting someone, Hell must be pretty overcrowded.
Not related to this episode, but whatever happened to Sam's younger brother? Is he the Chuck Cunningham of this series? The scene between Sam and the decaying Mr. Oliver was a nice touch.
Ray Wise remains utterly fun to watch. I'm only sorry the Devil didn't appear more in the episode. It's almost like the old Hulk television show, where the monster must be relegated to two appearances. Favorite line of the night: "In the old days, I used to get souls that ate shrimp."
The Kristen storyline wrapped up, which was good because once Sock slept with her and told her father/his stepfather about it, there really wasn't much else to do with the relationship. Sock doesn't strike me as committed to a relationship. He's the Master Shake or Sarah Silverman of this show. He never learns and doesn't grow as a person. That's his charm.
That being said, is Mr. Wysocki really the person you want to help you get laid? Would you even have Sock as a roommate?
A few questions about this week's soul, Billy: why didn't he have any kind of power? At first I thought the virginity thing was a cover and his power was charisma, but he didn't have anything. Had he remained out of Hell, would he have grown old and died all over again? Is that how it works? You're the same age as when you died and then you start getting older? If his dead carcass could go in the vessel, are they saying that a reincarnated soul has the exact same body (enough to fool the vessel)?
And what about the Ender? We didn't really get an explanation of why he stopped pursuing Billy. We only got Ben's theory, which I guess is as close as the audience is going to get to an explanation.
Ben remains his dweebish self. He's the only one in a relationship (albeit with a demon) and he's more whiny than Sam. I would describe him as "metrosexual".
Sam, in his attempt to screw Morgan over with the soul, is seemingly becoming more like his "father."
I like Ray Wise's character better than the similar Morgan and hope Morgan's storyline is wrapped up sooner rather than later, simply because it would allow for more Ray Wise.
While enjoyable, this episode seemed like filler (except for the Kristen wrap-up) and was leading into the continuation of the "Alan" storyline from this season's premiere (about time, too). I'll bet that by the time next week's episode is done, Alan will be back in Hell.

I doubt they'll put Alan back in the box so soon...
Of course I have no idea how many episodes they've got left...

I think he did, I think it had to do with his initially escaping from Sam in the diner from under the table. I

He just slid under the booths quickly, I could do that and I am not an escaped soul as far as I can tell... It doesn't seem like all souls have powers. What about the boxer? what about the fight club guys. They all really had no powers... Seems to be, the longer you are in hell the more powers you get since all the souls that had crazy powers were from way back in history, whereas the others were from only the last few decades...

Maybe the souls have powers as part of the Devil's attempts to screw with Sam.

Since the souls with powers always seem to have powers that relate to what sent them to hell, I would hate to see what the damned shrimp eaters end up being able to do... Seafood Buffets close down around the world!!!

I've also been wondering what happened to Sam's younger brother. I don't think we've seen him since the first episode. Hmmm...

Re Sam's younger brother: He was probably just retconned out of existence, but wasn't he heading off to college?
Re the Ender: I liked Ben's excuse when he gave it, but the end of the episode seems to disprove it. If the Ender can't take Billy because his soul has become one with someone else's, then how could he be taken into the vessel?
Re too many coveters in hell: Well, Billy was coveting at the exact moment of his death, with no opportunity to regret/repent/whatever. I'm guessing that Hell is not wall-to-wall with every person who ever had a lusty thought.

I have to disagree with your assessment of Sock and his inability to be committed in a relationship. While normally I would agree, I got the feeling when he was saying goodbye to Kristen that he truly did have feelings for her, because when he said goodbye he wasn't his usual, goofy self. He was quiet, and you could see that he was trying to keep his sad emotions at bay. Maybe his relationship with Kristen could have matured him just a bit had it been allowed to go on longer.
