As if we haven't heard enough bad news about this show. Turns out that the final two hours of everyone's favorite guilty pleasure, Prison Break, might not even air on FOX. The over-the-top drama, which was recently canceled, returns this Friday ("The Mother Lode", 9PM ET on FOX) to air the first of its final six episodes. All of those episodes will air on FOX.
Confused? Keep reading.
As many have heard, Prison Break EP Matt Olmstead and his creative team went above and beyond what was required of them. After the series finale (scheduled to air on May 15th), Olmstead's crew made a finaler(?) series finale, in the form of a standalone two hour telepic that may or may not be related to that woman's prison spin-off that's long been rumored (which isn't happening ... yet).
TV Guide's Matt Mitovich is now reporting that FOX "neither ordered nor scheduled" the telepic (a.k.a. episodes S04E23 and S04E24). In fact, he says, it's gonna be a straight to DVD release. TVShowsOnDVD.com seems to support this claim saying that the tentatively titled Prison Break: The Final Break will be released on July 21st. Hopefully FOX goes ahead and schedules it anyway.
So what does everyone think about this news? Personally, I'm a fan of this show, but here's how I see it - you don't watch Prison Break, you put up with Prison Break. Based on that reasoning alone, I say FOX owes us one. Besides, what could they possibly air instead?

I blame prison break for the lack of success of TSCC. they were supposed to anchor the night being the vet drama. but the last 2 seasons have been so over the top and so awful, worse than heroes!!! too many viewers just turned away.
I am done with PB. the lost me at the "6 cards that can only be read at one place, that has the security equal to the temple of doom"
BS, bring back T:SCC fox!!!

Good. Take your comments and vanish, leaving the rest of us to watch our final eps of PB in peace.
While the first season was undoubtedly the best, I can't fault PB for being what it is: a good piece of escapist television. Looking at it from that angle, I don't think they've ever jumped the shark.
I also don't agree with Jonathan's comment that you "put up" with PB. I've enjoyed it every step of the way. I think that, in this case, Jonathan's remark just tows the popular party line regarding this show.
PB will actually be decent enough to give us a proper and satisfying conclusion. And remember when fans screamed about the death of Sara Tancreadi? THEY BROUGHT HER BACK! This show has definitely responded to the fans. I also give the showrunners credit that they've managed to keep generating something I keep tuning back into week after week for this long.
Overall, I'm sorry to see it go, but it is definitely time. Let's just hope that the conclusion that is offered gives us a satisfying ending for those characters that we've come to enjoy over the last four years.

i will leave. the hunt for scilla was really lame.
but i will say that the first two seasons were great, a mix of over the top sequences and plot twists.
i won't be watchin it die on fridays.
there is only one show i watch live on fridays and it's gone now.

i think that them not allowing prison break to have the season go till july is a bunch of crap we have been waiting for so long and now they pull a fast one that is so stupid they better make it worth the wait.

Fox is really testing the viewer’s patience. And, in the end they will look back and a lot of mistakes they made this year.

What the hell is going on over at FOX?
First Dollhouse makes and extra episode and now Prison Break makes an extra 2 hour TV movie?

Between this and DOLLHOUSE, I'm getting a headache. What are they even putting in the place of these shows they're not airing? More reality TV?

I loved the first season of this show, and now I'm glad to see it go.
What does fox have to air instead? Why extra hours of American Idol, of course. Why have 10 hours of American Idol per week when you can have 11? I hate fox so much.

Boy I don't understand whaty has happened to Fox.It's like one dissappointment after another.I find it ridiculous that they would flat out refuse to air the PB extra eps.Why not?How could it possibly hurt them?Same for the Dollhouse extra ep.Straight to DVD means almost nobody will see those eps unless someone somewhere airs them. But what gets me more and more is how Fox itself has changed and become a network that cares about money only and does things over and over that piss viewers off with no apologies.American Idol ran long again and backed off Fringe by a few minutes. Not as bad as the other time but yet again Fox did what they wanted to do and be damned with the viewers.
I'm becoming very reluctant to really invest in any Fox series because Fox has become a cowardly network that cares only about money and pulls the plug before programs get a chance to go anywhere.

its pathetic that viewers invest in a network that clearly doesnt give what the viewers want, there are some major flaws in Fox quaters and not airing the Final Break Prison break film sucks the programme deserves its airing and Fox should be the ones to show it at a decent time, im sick of same old same old programmes, show us what we want, if Fox film company can put their hands in their pockets to make this then Fox network need to open their eyes, whose running that place? a bunch of muppets?

I don't necessarily blame FOX for what's going on with Prison Break and Dollhouse. (And I do think FOX sucks.)
What it looks like is that FOX ordered a set number of episodes to air. But the production arm (Fox Television) has granted the productions of both series the money and other means to do an extra episode to include on the DVD box set releases. (And these extra episodes will probably air in countries outside the U.S..)
This is good for fans of both shows because it allows the producers to further wrap up any loose ends, beyond the "official" final episodes. But FOX the network is not only under no obligation to air these "lost" episodes -- the network probably doesn't even have the right to air them.

I'm not a fan of the show but once again Fox is screwing their viewers. Fox just cares about Idol and every other show be damned.

I say wait for DVD for all of it. I'm tired of FOX and all the other networks jerking us around with the back-half of seasons - forcing us to sit through long hiatuses (hiatusi?) :D
