Yup, it looks like Dave and Jay still aren't on speaking terms.Who knows who is less interested in burying the hatchet? Publicly, it has always seemed that Jay would like to be friends with Dave again more than Dave wants to, though that might just be how Jay wants to frame it (it helps Jay's cause that Dave hardly ever gives interviews and is quiet on this subject in particular).
Now Jay tells GQ that he sent Dave a letter when Dave had his heart surgery several years ago, but was bummed when Dave didn't respond.
Jay says he isn't even sure if Dave got the letter, that maybe some staff person didn't think Dave would be interested so he threw it away. That seems odd to me. What, did Jay give it to Kenneth the page to give to Dave, and then Kenneth tripped and fell into a giant tub of coffee and the letter got ruined, or he lost it while one of those weird crosstown errands for Tracy? (Yes, I know that it wouldn't make any sense for Jay to give an NBC page a letter meant for somebody at CBS, but I don't know any pages over at CBS, so go with it.) I would think that Jay and Dave have mutual, close friends that could have gotten the letter delivered directly.
I still think that somehow, some way, at some point, Jay will be on Dave's show, or vice-versa. Not that they will suddenly get all kissy-kissy and become buds again, but it's one of those weird things that has to happen because there's no way it can happen. Every single person who owns a TV and has watched either Dave or Jay over the years will be tuned in that night.

Well, Dave tried to book Jay for when he leaves "Tonight," and the 10 PM announcement precluded that. So this is really a non-story.

Or, Jay is pretty sure Dave did receive the letter but didn't want to make Dave look like too much of a bad guy so he made a couple of excuses for why Dave might not have replied.

I hope it does happen at some point. I kind of like them both. I'd definitely watch.

It was a nice gesture for Jay to write to Dave after his heart surgery, but it's ironic, given that he figuratively tore Dave's heart out and stomped on it to land the Tonight Show gig.
For those who don't know the back story: Jay *hid in a frickin' closet* at NBC in his efforts to quash Dave's deal to succeed Johnny.
Read Bill Carter's "The Late Shift." You will never look at Jay the same way again. He is a back-stabbing douchebag. Worse yet, he's not funny.

I think Jay will on Letterman one day. Failing that, I'm sure that after Letterman retires he'll go on The Tonight Show with Conan.
Naturally, it can't happen while Jay is doing the Tonight Show, but if his Primetime gig fails before Letterman retires, I'm sure he'll go on very soon after.
Letterman was always better, but he's clearly phoning it in these days. Until Conan comes back in June, the most exciting person on Late Night is Craig Ferguson.

Loved Jay's old appearances on Letterman's "Late Night" (incidentally, that was the last time I found Jay particularly entertaining). The appearances were very funny, and 2 had great comedy chemistry together. I'd love it if, somehow, Jay could appear on Letterman's show post-"Tonight Show" and do the same kind of interview/set.

Dave Letterman was the laughing stock of the East Side of NY before he landed on TV. He was barred from all of the bars - was a punk. Obviously, he still is. CBS should save their reputation and fire the loser. Since they haven't, I'll be happy to watch Conan until Jay Leno returns. Atleast Jay is a gentleman - can't say the same for Letterman - an ugly person, both in looks and personality - a real loser. CBS - fire the creep.
