The Sarah Connor Chronicles season two finale pulled in a paltry 3.6 million viewers Friday night. The show came in behind Ghost Whisperer, Wife Swap and the abomination known as Howie Do It to receive a low 1.3 rating among adults 18-49. It's a shame. The TSCC season finale was probably the best episode of the series. It was smart, absorbing, and just plain batsh*it crazy. It took the Terminator mythos in a bold new direction to set up what could possibly be an amazing third season. But a third season is unlikely with numbers like this. The show has failed to bring in even four million viewers during the past few months.
It looks like fans will have to get their Terminator fix with Christian Bale's upcoming Terminator Salvation and its sequels.
Fox is expected to announce its lineups for the 2009-2010 season on May 18. If TSCC doesn't make the cut, I've got three words for series creator Josh Friedman: Comic book continuation. Hey, it worked for Buffy!

If Terminator Salvation doesn't give this series a bump..then it might as well go away.I think it will be back.

This series is fantastic. We unfortunately have to tape it ...when it was on mondays and now on fridays. But its great, super suspensful and has always kept my husband and I at the edge of our seats. I really hope there is a third season. The finale was amazing...especially as my arms were up in the air for the last 2 min when they brought back Reese...Brian Austin Green. We really want to know whats up with Ms. Weaver...Good Guy? Bad Guy? Dont leave it us like this. Bring it back!!!!!

Adverts for this show during the Terminator screenings, little stickers on the DVD for Salvation when it comes out in December, and just plain constantly tieing the 2 together would help ON TOP of moving the show to a better night. The show had better ratings on mondays I remember so maybe a return to that timeslot would do it good.

Sad. Was Fox even advertising this show anymore? Don't recall seeing any ads during House or Fringe.

I know why ratings were low in Atlanta... it was preempted for 36 minutes for an extended weather forecast that every station in Atlanta had to broadcast simultaneously. I had to watch it online to see what happened at the beginning. It didn't even rain at my house.
So since no one was home Friday night, did they check the DVR stats??? What about their own online viewing stats? I noticed quite a few people saw the season finale and commented on it.

If Fox cancels it, I wonder if it could be picked up by SciFi/SyFy. This show is too good to die so young.

Here we go with the Fox test.If they cancel we'll all know they've gone soft and generic. It's too bad Fox doesn't own a channel like Sci-Fi and the many others NBC owns etc so they could move a show like this to a place where it could find itself.I don't think the movie will help because the story isn't the same but maybe there would be enough coat-tails to carry it since the movie is supposed to be one of several in the pipeline. That said I'd be shocked to see the show return unless somebody out there pulls a Jericho and forces a limited wrap up.
I don't buy the numbers as all that watch it.I think it's watched by DVR and online as Friday isn't a sit in front of the TV night for many.I also think a show like this could be a good counter to the ten PM Leno thing coming next season. So could Dollhouse.Innovative programming could work against tradition like that.
Fox if you read this, though I doubt you read anything but numbers and add revenues, find what you lost and start holding on to innovation and bold different programming like you once did and do not anymore.

Is anybody genuinely surprised at this?
The audience for T:SSC have always been the tech-savvy, time-shifting crowd. I don't believe the 3.6 million even remotely resembles the actual viewing figures.
As for the move to SciFi (or SyFy), Terminator isn't exactly a cheap show. Also, Terminator is on FOX via a Warner Bros production while Syfy is a NBC Universal channel. Not impossible to move, but makes it harder.

I can't cite any sources, but my understanding from reading about T:SCC when it first aired, is that it is a VERY expensive show to produce. Much more expensive than a usual one hour drama.

Well, Fox moved it to the death slot. That's where Prison Break is starting this Friday, and we all know Prison Break is already canceled. I'm not even sure why they started Dollhouse on Friday either...
It's only a matter of time before Fox gives up on Fringe once viewership starts to shift around and move it to Friday and wonder where their viewers went. Go figure...
We can only hope SyFy is interested in picking this great(ly improving) show up.

Did Fox really expect more than 3 million on Friday night?!
I'd love to get a look at the DVR and online numbers for Fox's Friday night line up. I have a feeling if you combined them the show would be at or near the top of the ratings. The problem is a lot of the people who love this show go out on Fridays.
I really hope Fox does the right thing here, but if they don't I prey another network see's the potential TSCC has.
Listen up FOX, a 2 to 3 season deal for TSCC and a 3 to 4 season deal for Dollhouse. Let the creators develop a complete story instead of keeping them in the dark as far as whether their tale will continue or not .

So I had forgotton, surprise surprise, about FX.FX could be a place for at least some of these shows...then I see an article where the head honcho at FX says he thinks nets like FX shouldn't be doing much original programming.....another indication of how cowardly Fox has become.
Also I find it somewhat odd that shows like this aren't allowed to reach syndication episode level so they can earn some money later on.TSCC and Dollhouse,Fringe and others all could continue to draw some revenue in syndication. If TSCC dies now you'll probably never see it again unless they use it to fill time over the summer.Otherwise bye bye.

I think it would be good for FX. FX has the potential to be another USA or TNT with drama shows. One of the best, if not best dramas is on FX (Damages), plus with shows like Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me they have great dramas. You don't need as many viewers on FX to make money like on broadcast.

The thing is, for the most part, Fox doesn't give a diddly do how many people watch the show, they care about how many people watch all those commercials during the show (Or at least how many people they can claim watch the commercials when it comes time to set advertising rates).
Live viewers, rightly or wrongly, are considered a captive audience that's going to watch more of those commercials. Time shifters are probably assumed to fast forward through the commercials and online viewers get a small fraction of the commercials live viewers do.
If DVRs were prevented from skipping past commercials and online showings had the same amount of commercials as live broadcasts they'd probably get included in the ratings because then they'd equal money. But viewers would howl like banshees if those things happened.
I'll miss the show, but Fox is running a business, not a fan club or a writing workshop. I could speculate on if they made this decision or didn't make that decision, but speculation is all it would be and it wouldn't be my money on the line.

yup that sounds about right.
3.6 is low i think it was a 1.3 in the demo and a 5 share.
i planned my night around T:SCC and i went out after nine. i also DVRd it but i guess it was all moot.
they said that T:SCC gets about 33% boost from DVRs only and most of that is demo so that may be important. but the live audience numbers aren't great.
it's usually a very viewed video on hulu and fox.com too.
they may shift it. i mean Fox's season doesn't even start till american idol starts anyways. i would love a 6-13 episode series wrap up as a mideaseon replacement. sounds better than yet another seth mcfarlane show or "fightin bears with celebrities" or "watch the osbournes curse" or "rip off of dancing with the stars"

If T:SCC moved to cable, I would consider getting cable to watch it regularly. Don't mind it at all. I used to love the Scifi channel, so I would love to get back into it.

I think these numbers serve to solidify the fact that the current content-distribution/revenue-generation model for television is just plain broken.
Most 18-49 year olds ARE time/place-shifting their content viewing; now is the time to figure out how to turn that into revenue! Instead, FOX clings to the old way of doing things and just assumes 18-49 year old viewers are un-attainable.
Which, BTW, is totally wrong, I watch more on FOX than I do any other channel! They have had some great shows this season.
Ps, One such revenue stream could be product placement... A friend of mine just two weeks ago purchased an '09 Dodge Ram. He is an avid T:SCC fan.

I completely agree in regards to the statement that the current method of calculating viewership is deeply flawed.
The demographic that would be attracted to a show like t:scc is exactly the demographic that would take advantage of DVR or downloadable content.
It's time the networks and cable outfits realized that today's audience has the resources available to watch programming when, where and how we prefer.

as ive stated before. it makes no sense for fox to cut it when a movie could boost interest in the show. what fox might do is order a shortened season to see if the movie generates huge interest if it does it will probably get picked up.
