Jason Katims, the producer behind Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, is making another drama for NBC. This one will be a modern take of an old classic, The Wizard of Oz. But rather than having Dorothy go to Oz, she will go to New York City (her version of the Emerald City) and join the art world as a naive Kansas girl. Her boss will be the Wicked Witch.Okay, so it's a Sex And The City version of The Wizard of Oz. It may work. It certainly has enough familiar elements to do so.
Without knowing anything about this series other than what is written in the article, I already know that she will have three co-workers, one with no brain, one (and pretty loose) with no heart (and fairly stiff) and one with no courage (and quite possibly hairy. And, if he acts like Burt Lahr in the classic movie, quite possibly gay).

OK, let me give NBC props for thinking outside the box, but this seems doomed to fail.

It's almost like the Kings genesis. Take a well-known, well-liked story and transform it into a modern parable.

We, kansas people, are dumb. New York City? That must be a gazillion miles away. Here is what I think...wait, got to go plow my field, be right back.

You have to wonder about the thought processes at NBC after hearing about first Kings and now this. What's next?
It's a story of a young girl sent to the country to take care of her dying grandmother who, along the way, meets the devil, who is only interested in one thing, Lilith "Lil" Ridinghood's soul.
He's Jack Hansel, 12. He's lost in the big city, looking for his sister who was taken from his foster home by a wicked woman with a big wart on her carrot nose.
James, Charlie, and Russel Mous. All 3 brothers are blind clockmakers who fight crime.
This is easy. We should all write for NBC.

As long as it's magical realism, this could be interesting. Otherwise blcch.
