What follows is a trailer for the new Doctor Who semi-spin-off, K9. It can't be considered a real, official spin-off because the BBC is in no way involved in the production. This version of K9 shouldn't be confused with the one on The Sarah Jane Adventures. Per one of its creators Bob Baker (who is overseeing production on this show), it's the original that was left with Leela by the Doctor in his 4th incarnation.
The robot dog definitely has a different look (and a different voice). I'm not sure how I feel about it. Supposedly it will "regenerate" early in the first episode (a trick learned on Gallifrey) to its current version. The show itself looks like classic kid's television. It could even be seen as a direct competitor to the aforementioned Sarah Jane Adventures, where the character of K9 has also made the occasional cameo.
Video is after the jump. Doctor Who fans, what do you think?

Well, since Leela was left on Gallifrey, wouldn't she and K9 Mk I been destroyed when Gallifrey was destroyed?
K9 Mk I was left on Gallifrey with Leela
K9 Mk II was left in E-Space with Romana
K9 Mk III was given to Sarah Jane in K9 & Company (1981), appeared in Five Doctors (1983), and was destroyed in "School Reunion" (2006).
K9 Mk IV appeared at the end of School Reunion, made a couple of appearances in Sarah Jane Adventures, and at the end of "Journey's End" in the most recent series of Doctor Who.
This new K9, if it's supposed to be K9 Mk I "regenerated".. I wonder if it will be explained at all in dialogue how he got off Gallifrey before it was destroyed.
Yeah, I know this is all Comic Book Guy stuff. Sue me, I pay attention to the show, unlike some people. :)

To make it even more complicated, the K9 that stayed with Leela on Gallifrey was actually destroyed in the final run of Big Finish's "Gallifrey" audio spinoff series. Not that anyone is obligated to accept those as canon.

Also, according to Paul Tams, the show's producer, K9's voice, the music and the graphical elements aren't final. This is a trailer produced for the MIPTV festival in Cannes.

George, you're right about the book thing, but they're generally accepted as non-canon, but I really don't want to get into that quagmire here. :)
As for the not final, I'm holding out hope for that issue as well, but I can't imagine them changing it THAT much from this. We shall see. It looks like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers right now.

Okay - being a K9 fan my impressions are this. OMG! K9 dear get rid of those big ears! They should have stuck to the original design. Everyone says the voice is different, but from what I hear, the voice is still the same. K9 now can fly? How do they explain K9 not being with Sarah Jane? I hope they can explain the differences. Yes, Doctor Who fans DO notice these things!
