Well, most of you correctly predicted who would go home on American Idol this week. A whopping 1183 votes for the predicted loser were logged in our poll!
But before we got to find out who it was for real, a whole bunch of other stuff happened, starting with Kara saying she appreciates the audience and their passion for the Idols. That was in reference to the heckling she got last night.
And Paula tried to redeem herself by saying that while she put the spotlight on Adam Lambert (you know, that Mick Jagger/Steven Tyler comment), she knows that all of the Idols have something special. Alrighty then.

Feb. 26, 2009: Nick Mitchell Is Eliminated (For Now)

Feb. 26, 2009: Adam Lambert Makes the Top 12
"I didn't care for him at all. I thought he was way over the top and way too theatrical for that song. I'm sure he'll get through. I'll be interested to see what he does when they have themes. Maybe he'll grow on me, but right now I would put him second or third behind some of the other ones I've heard."

Feb. 18, 2009: Danny Gokey Makes the Top 12
"When [Danny] and Tatiana were called up, he had the cockiest look on his face.
Like he's a really good singer, but whenever I see him, I just think about how cocky he looks."
-- RoshanMcG

Feb. 18, 2009: Alexis Grace Makes the Top 12
"Alexis is the whole package! So cute ... with such a big voice."

Feb. 18, 2009: Michael Sarver Makes the Top 12
"I don't really get the appeal. I mean, he's a likeable guy, but as a performer, he just doesn't seem that good to me. I definitely thought Ricky and Anoop sounded better."
-- TGirl1045

After a freaky Ford commercial that paired different body parts of the Idols with other body parts, the Top 9 did a rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin," which I can't hear without thinking of the final episode of The Sopranos ... sniff.
Then we got to see a little bit of "A Day in the Life of an American Idol," including photo shoots, appearances, flashing cameras, rehearsals, and their own chef who cooks for them several times a week. As Allison Iraheta said, "My life right now could not get any better."
Then we got a funny little bit about the Idols impersonating each other. No matter what happens or who goes home, they seem like they're having a blast.
Mixed in amongst the results stuff, we had performances by David Cook (kind of forgettable, in my opinion) and a wild song by Lady Gaga. She is one hot mess! Whatever you say about her, you'll probably remember her performance. She had on this scary alien-inspired outfit, and her dancers made me a little woozy. But I do like her voice. It's really interesting.
On to the results: Ryan split the Idols into three groups, which really didn't go anywhere. Kris, Matt, Lil, Adam, Danny, and Scott were sent back to the chairs. They're safe for this week. But Allison, Megan Joy, and Anoop ended up in the bottom three.
When Simon said there was only one of the three the judges would save, I think we all knew it would be Allison. But she was sent to safety, leaving Anoop and Megan Joy clinging to each other. Well, maybe it was just Megan Joy clinging to Anoop.
When Anoop was saved, Simon told Megan Joy they wouldn't even contemplate saving her, so this would be her "swan song." That can't be easy for her, having to face all this rejection. But she seemed ok with it and told her little son, "I'm coming home, Baby!"

I will fully agree that Megan kept picking horrible songs for her unique voice, and the way she moved was awkward and goofy. However, as the weeks went by, I came to enjoy her upbeat spirit and quirkiness, and found it refreshing. Do I think she should have won? Absolutely not. Adam's my guy.
But I think that the way Simon treated her last night by telling her that it would be her swan song when she sang because they wouldn't even consider saving her was truly mean spirited, even for him.

Are you kidding? I think she absolutely deserved Simon's comment. When Ryan asked her what she thought of Simon's critique the night before, she flippantly said "I don't care!" So why would the judges even consider saving her ass when she so blatantly disrespects them? Good riddance. (I wish they could kick her off the tour, but I realize that's asking too much.)

I agree with Patti, he probably could've been more mature about it, but hey it's Simon.

I really thought that what Simon says was pretty cruel. It's like a slap in the face when a judge tells you that he wouldn't even consider saving you because he doesn't care about you. How many times over the past 7 years has a contestant tell simon "they don't care about what he says when they are having fun"? What gives simon the right to reject her the way he did? A simple "sadly you won't be coming back next week" would've sufficed.

The good news: America's good sense finally outweighed Vote For The Worst.
The better news: Megan was sent home!
I am happy to admit my predictions this week were wrong.
The only other thing I'll add is that the lip-synching during the group song was horrendous. Make these jokers sing live!
See you next week.

Simon said what he did because of Megan's comment at the beginning of the show. She was asked what she thought of the critique of the judges and she said "I Just don't care." That was her own grave she dug. Simon was right on. I am so glad she is gone. Anoop will be next unless he does a show stopper next week. On with the Show.

Thank gahd, this season's Kristy Lee Cook/Carly Smithson hybrid was shown the door. And her nasty little "I don't care what Simon thinks" attitude came back to bite her when he refused to "save" her BEFORE she even sang for it. Next!

While I think it was long past time for Meghan to go I actually like that some of the contestants don't give a damn what the judges think. Week after week their critiques are useless and belittling, offering no real constructive information. In the end, it doesn't matter what Simon thinks; it matters what the voters think. Simon never had any intention of giving Meghan a second chance, nor did she deserve one; he said that just to be cruel and show Meghan he has power over her. The speaks volumes about the type of person Simon is.

What was the reference to the flapping of the wings and the weird "Caw caw" thing she said. Was she "flying home"? I didnt get it.
Glad she went home though. Her attitude sucked.

The "caw" was from her performance of "Rockin Robin", and a shout out to VFTW.
I , for one, am going to miss our special Meghan. She didn't fit into the three or four molds that AI cranks out. I will buy her music, and will go to the AI tour, and walk out after she sings.

Something tells me Kara got a talking to from the producers and/or Simon about talking back to the audience. Even during the telecast you could hear Simon chastise Kara not to spar with the audience. I know the producers were looking for a way to shake things up, and adding a fourth judge might have been a good idea, but Kara is just terrible. She's not quite the flake Paula's become, but still pretty much useless.

Very embarrasing night for Megan. Her behavior, her attitude, all strange. Though Simon was right, he could have handled the situation less harshly. He was obviously angry that Megan made the show look bad by her cavalier attitude. I still don't trust Simon. Anyone notice that oftentimes when he is judging someone, he scratches his face with his middle finger? Why does he do that? Very annoying and crass.

Megan's behavior last night was just bizarre. All the antics were those of a 10-year old. Did anyone wonder if she might have been on something?

It was past the time for Megan to go! and her immature attitude last night showed us why she would never be Idol material! Her songs were bad & her movements were worse! Now we just need to get rid of Anoop & Scott - then we will have a real competition!!!

You know, I hate to oversimplify things, but doing well on American Idol is really pretty easy.
1. Select a song that highlights your vocal strengths (range, tone, etc.)
2. Whenever possible, pick a contemporary song (last two years) and rearange it according to #1
3. Take the judges criticism and try to incorporate their feedback in your next performance.
4. Show some personality, but avoid callusness and indifference.
Megan failed on all of these on a weekly basis. Ironic, because they put her in the compitition because she looked like she would do the above 4 things. Oh well.

What a pleasant surprise that Megan was finally voted off. It was starting to seem that she was going to continue to overstay her welcome for several more weeks. I was sure Anoop would go home, even though he was much better than Megan.
When Simon announced that they wouldnt even debate using the save for Megan, it came across as very crass and petty. Everyone already knew they wouldnt waste their only save on Megan, but he could have acknowleged that without so crudely slapping her in the face like that. I am aware of her comment that she didnt care about Simons critiqe of her performance. It reflected badly on Megan, but she has always been flakey and never seemed to take the competition seriously, which showed in her half-hearted performances. However, Simon could have been the bigger man and let it slide. But, as bullies do, he had to kick her when she was down and let everyone know who was in charge. So, ok Simon, we know you are in charge. We also know that you went out of your way to embarass a vulnerable young lady on nationwide television because you thought she insulted you. So much for being the bigger man. Congratulation.
A few quick final thoughts. I liked David Cooks song, I didnt know what to think about Lady Gaga, except she has a good voice if she would use it correctly and she has great legs. For once, I even liked the group number, probably cause I'm a big Journey fan. And does this group of Idols really get along better than other groups in the past, or does it just seem like it because its played up more and edited to look like they do?

Simon's b*tchy dismissal of Megan was childish and unprofessional. The more I see of this show, the more I realize that he's just a really bitter, unhappy person. Most of the negativity that spews from his nicotine-smelling breath is not "constructive criticism." Most of it is just petty, uncalled for b*tchiness. Maybe if they'd let him smoke cigarettes througout the show, he wouldn't always be jonesing for a nicotine fix, and his mood would lighten to a professional, cordial manner.
