It's hard to judge a new series by watching a bunch of random clips played out of order an out of context -- but let's do it anyway!Sci Fi just released seven clips from Caprica, the upcoming Battlestar Galactica prequel series from Battlestar producers Ron Moore and David Eick. (UPDATE: Videos can now be found here.) The show seems to be about humanity's reaction to rapid advances in technology and shifting ideologies. It centers on two families – the Greystones and the Adamas – who are "joined by tragedy in an explosive instant of terror," according to SciFi. Possible spoilers after the jump.
The clips give us an idea of what Caprica was like before the Cylons existed. Judging by what I've seen, it was a clean but cold place threatened by religious terrorists and people who abuse technology the way some people abuse drugs.
I posted my favorite clip of the bunch below. It features Daniel Greystone (Eric Stoltz) apparently meeting a cyborg that looks and acts exactly like his (probably) dead daughter, Zoe. The other clips mostly feature the Greystone family dealing with the rebellious Zoe (this girl really has an attitude problem) and the aftermath of that "explosive instant of terror."
We also get a look at some of Caprica's technology, including a futuristic tennis court and a messenger robot. One clip references something called "holobands," which I assume look like this:

In clip #4, Zoe uses one of these devices and then appears at a nightclub, where she touches a glowing infinity symbol that opens a door. In clip #5, we learn the same symbol might be the calling card of a terrorist group called "Soldiers of the One," who believe in the "one true god."
Judging by these clips, Caprica will have a lot to say about family, terrorism, and technology, not to mention faith and politics. It promises to be a truly ambitious series that attempts to comment on our world and its future. But will it be any good? It's hard to tell. It'll at least be ambitious, and that will make it worth watching for me.
The two-hour pilot hits DVD on April 21. It'll be in my DVD player the day it comes out. Anyone else buying?

Unfortunately I can't see any clips cuz I work for a school district that blocks incoming videos, but the show looks really interesting. Those holobands look groovy. Geordi anyone?

Has this already screened on TV? I don't remember it doing that, so I'm just curious why it's already coming out on DVD. Help?
