(S07E15) "Because we're fugitives Tony! No one's gonna believe us!" - Jack
Maybe I'm just far too optimistic, but I'd like to think that if Lockheed Martin (or some other major defense contractor) started making a bio-weapon with plans to release it in say, rural Tennessee, we'd know about. Well, not you and me, but someone up high. That's been my biggest gripe with this season and I've mentioned it before - even in the world of 24, far too much is happening that shouldn't be happening. I'm starting to think that maybe next season, Day 8, 24's clock should be punched for good.
With the complaining out of the way, that was one helluva of an hour - one of the best of this season. It went overboard a few times (Carl, the "please don't kill me, I have a pregnant wife" Port Authority cop and Olivia "Sherry Palmer" Taylor both come to mind), but the action sequence at the port made up for every other fault. Any other fans of The Wire get all nostalgic when we saw all those shipping containers?
We finally got to see Jack and Tony team up again (we haven't since early on in the day). Both of them were wired (Jack on pure adrenaline; Tony on whatever wussy espresso drink he was finishing at that cafe at the end of last week's ep) and the entire gun fight was just really well choreographed. Kudos to Jon Cassar's directorial eye on that whole scene - he'll be missed during Day 8.
Lots of big questions to address though, so let's get to 'em:
-
Is Ethan really gone for good? I'm guessing no. Yes he resigned, but remember, he made a point of telling the President that he'd have a letter on her desk first thing in the morning. That's still about 5 or 6 hours away and there are 9 hours left in the season. I doubt his involvement is over.
-
Could Olivia be any stupider? No. Definitely not. When is she going to realize that even with Ethan resigning and taking the fall, leaking all this info to the press is still going to be detrimental to her mother? Idiot! Like I mentioned earlier, it's fine that she's morphing into Sherry Palmer Jr., but I always felt like Sherry knew what she was doing and understood the stakes. I don't think Olivia does.
-
Just what the hell did Jack inhale? And more importantly, why did he inhale? He knew he was hauling a bio-weapon, yet when he heard the distinct sound of gas hissing and saw the hole, he shoved his head in the hole?!? Jack is smarter that that. At least he held his breath when he went inside to disable the leak. That being said, I'm not entirely convinced he actually inhaled the virus (or whatever it is). It looked more to me like that leaky tank was maybe nitrogen, or something similar, being used to cool the rest of the bio-weapon unit.
Now that the weapon is back in Starkwood's hands, it'll be interesting to see if they're finally able to set it off. I'm assuming this is going to end up being fairly similar to the hotel fiasco in season three. And speaking of season three - possible spoiler alert - anyone else catch the preview for next week's episode? Unless my eyes deceived me, it looked like Christina Chang was reprising her S3 role as Dr. Sunny Macer. At least Jack will have her in his corner. Although Larry seems to be on Jack's side again too... which means he flip-flopped. Again. Don't get started on that.

Tony: Jack, it's two against ten.
Jack: Two against nine.
BEST line ever on 24.

It says something for the season when, week after week, we say things like, "One of the best hours this season!" My thoughts on tonight's ep...
- I was glad Tony and Jack weren't able to miraculously take out an entire team of trained commandos. Set up some cover so Jack can go after the truck... Brilliant!
- Jack saved Trip, er, I mean Carl? I enjoyed seeing Jack's 10 seconds of conflict... Save the man or continue with the mission? Earlier this season Jack would have easily chosen the mission.
- Nice to see the First Gentlemen. They didn't forget him.
- I don't care if Larry's starting to believe Jack's innocent... He's still a tool.
As always, I'm looking forward to next week!

-Larry is just pissing me off. Wasnt he just on a tirade to get Bauer taken down for murder? Now they are on the same side again. Pick a side!
-Renee got to Jack, he spared the moron guard with the pregnant wife (was the scene where they showed her necessary?)
-Jack and Tony in the gunfight=badass
-Jon Voight had no awesome lines this week.
- Jonathan: Day 8 actually will be the final season so your hopes have been answered. Also means Jack isn't going to die from whatever he breathed in.

Starkwood is specifically a private military contractor, not merely an arms manufacturing company. From what Renee and Senator Meyer said, they make billions off of government contracts, bribe and corrupt officials, and employ thousands of mercenaries in the U.S. and around the world. I think they're significantly more powerful in the world of 24 than comparable corporations in the real world.
The last time we saw a PMC in 24, they set off an EMP in LA and sent death squads out into the city just to tie off some loose ends. Starkwood seems to be a lot worse. Also, it's been explained that the weapon development and testing was done in Sangala, and the test villages were firebombed to prevent the UN from proving anything against Juma; Starkwood's name was never even involved.
I also don't think Olivia was stupid, just running damage control as quickly as possible, and hurting Ethan in the process. Once Burnett died, the press would have found out eventually, and the Taylor administration was going to be damaged. Meyers's death just exacerbated the situation. By leaking the story herself, Olivia was able to spin the blame away from her mother and toward Ethan alone. Of course, she advanced her own position at the same time.

I'm beginning to think of Jack Bauer in terms of Chuck Norris. Perhaps the two could unite and save the world, not that either would need the other to do so.

Judging by what happen on the ship when the guy died from taking a whiff of the bio killer juice, jack doesn't have anything to worry about except not getting his junk washed down in public.

My thoughts are that Jack does get infected by whatever was in the truck and then has to spend the rest of the time finding a cure for it. This will probably lead up to seeing Kim and asking for some forgiveness before he thinks he's going to die. I wouldn't put it past the 24 writers to kill Jack off at the end of the season and put next season's timeline somewhere earlier in the 24-universe. After all, we've had far more man years pass by in the 24-universe than in real life, sort of ironic if you ask me.

That moment went Jack looked down the street to all the civilians and decided he couldn't drive a leaking bioweapon through them, THEN went into the truck knowing it might kill him - that was Jack Bauer's finest hour. And that's saying a LOT.

Frankly I've been very impressed with this season so far. Yeah sure just like every other season of 24 there are plenty of times I'm saying "That would NEVER happen". It's certainly entertaining anyway.
Someone mentioned that Day 8 is going to be the last season, but for some reason I thought I remembered Kiefer signing until Day 9, I'm probably wrong though. Is the mass belief that Jack will die at the end of the series? I mean he has dodged death so many times, will someone actually kill him? or will he heroically die for his country?

Was I the only one that was so bored through this whole episode? How is a gunfight interesting?
24 used to be about gut-wrenching suspense through dialog and story. Now it's just a shoot-them-and-count-the-bodies, like everything else on TV.
I don't know if I will get through this season, simply because I do not care. How sad is that? Compare to Season 1 when I couldn't tear my eyes from the TV and was actually so wired I couldn't sleep!
24...it's done.

John Billingsly and Conner Trinneer were wasted talent this season. Should we expect to see Dominic Keating and Jolene Blalock next? How about Samuel Beckett suddenly jumping in a middle of a scene to help Jack defeat Starkwood?
Maybe Brannon Braga can be of some use...

This was another excellent season 7 ep. (and yes, it does seem to be getting old saying that... but it's still true!)
The gunfight and just about everything in the second half was totally awesome. We finally got to see some more of Jon Voight, too, and I thought he played his character brilliantly.
I'm thinking that Jack is *probably* not infected with the bio-agent, but I could see it going either way. It actually wouldn't surprise me too much if Jack died at the end of this season, or came very close to it. (think the season 2 cliffhanger ending with David Palmer apparently dying)
Speaking of further seasons, I used to think that there was absolutely no way 24 could ever continue without Jack. Now I'm starting to think a little differently. Sure, the show is 100% Bauer at the core, but I honestly wouldn't mind a Jack-less season 8 or 9... IF it was Renee Walker in the lead. She's the only person in 24 history that I thought could match Bauer as a lead character.

Good action in last night's episode. I've been impressed with the episodes Alex Gansa has written this season. Gansa was Howard Gordon's former writing partner on Beauty and the Beast and the first season of X-Files. And if I'm not mistaken, I believe I saw an allusion to X-Files:the letters CSM were on one of the containers in the shipyard-Cigarette Smoking Man?
I also saw the number 34 on another one of the containers. Hmmmm....

I have a suspicious feeling that Jon Voight's character and this plot doesn't end this season. Could they be setting up season 8 as "the next day?" something they haven't done yet.

Another great episode and they go...
In these moments 24 hours does not have competition in the current television.
It is the most brilliant series of action of the History and the end dependera exclusively of the plans of his creators, because, actually, it can last other seven seasons.
Greetings from Spain, Europe.- (I love USA)

24 is the BEST show on TV. This season has been remarkable.
By the way, season 8 is set about 6 weeks after the end of season 7.

I was hoping they wouldn't kill off Trip in a fox series twice in one season. He didn't fare so well in the Terminator:TSCC.
