(S02E19) "This has disaster written all over it." - Rufus
What Rufus said was not only applicable to Lily's request but also Blair's plan when crashing the Vanderbilts' party. Then again, Rufus' sentence could be applicable to pretty much every Gossip Girl storyline since the show is known for its shocking stories and drama, no?
Last week, I predicted that Blair would be spiraling down. This week's episode proved me right but what I didn't expect is the final scene happening so soon; thus maybe ending said spiral or at least stopping it for a while.
If Nate and Blair officially become a couple again this could be helpful to bring Blair back on track. Nate may be manipulated by his grandfather but the old man's power and wishes will mean that Nate will have his life in check at least during the internship. Having Blair stuck to Nate for a while could mean that she too will have a more organized lifestyle for a while. Blair and Nate may both not know exactly who they are and where they are heading, but Nate has his life more in order now and could be very helpful to Blair.
Just by Chuck's reaction when finding Nate's jacket, you can bet that Chuck is not a happy camper. However, since Chuck is all about saving Blair, he may accept Nate dating Blair... for now. You can bet that Chuck will be waiting in the wings to get his girl back.
If Blair and Nate don't resume their relationship, I wonder where Blair will be heading. By her actions at the end of the episode, it looks like she doesn't want to act as she did at the beginning of the episode. But by not accepting Serena's or Chuck's help, if Nate isn't there I'm afraid Blair won't be strong enough to avoid crashing and burning. This could mean great drama but I prefer seeing Nate + Blair, instead of Chuck + Blair (the couple I'm rooting for) if it means Blair going back to her old self. Do you agree? Until the scene where Nate and Blair talk about old times, I must say I didn't care much about the Vanderbilts and Nate's new storyline. The character has been put on the back burner since "The Ex-Files" -- except when his father came back and turned himself in -- and seeing him under the limelight this week felt out of place. We haven't been given good Nate storylines in so long, that I've sort of stopped caring about him. Am I the only one feeling that way?
I didn't care much about the Lily and Rufus storyline either. That "let's share a list of ex-lovers so all is out in the open" type of scenes have been done and redone over and over again. The storyline was too predictable: Lily with tons of exes and fearing sharing all names with Rufus; Rufus with only a few names. Nonetheless, I'm glad the two of them patched things up.
What did you think of the episode? Did you think it focused too much on Nate, Blair, Rufus and Lily and forgot the others? Would you qualify it as a filler episode? What do you see in the stars for our favorite Upper East Siders? Share your thoughts in comments below and vote in our poll.

I just feel for Vanessa. Maybe Chuck and Vanessa? That could be VERY interesting especially since the actors are dating in real life (similarly Blair and Carter).

Am I the only one who liked Blair with Carter? I mean, I think Carter is the worst kind of person, but when they were together they were kinda creepy, but definitely fun to watch.

The actor who plays Chuck is so talented. I can't imagine him not getting Blair back. I've kind of gotten burnt out on this show and haven't watched for awhile, though they are all sitting in my DVR queue. I've grown tired of Serena and can't help but wonder why this show insists on making her the "star".

I agree, I'm getting tired of all this Chuck and Blair back and forth - Nate could finally be good for something! :)
I wrote my own recap, too - hope you enjoy: http://squareeyes.blinkx.com/2009/03/grandpas-slavs-and-the-pains-of-being-too-rich/
