Desperate Housewives: A Spark. To Pierce the Dark.

Desperate Housewives
(S05E18) "There is nothing simple about murder." - Mary Alice Young

There you have it people, not only Dave's plan finally entered its final phase but a much talked about event took place at the very end of this week's Desperate Housewives. What surprised me is that the final scene happened this week. Quite frankly, I expected it in late April to set the tone for the final episodes to be aired in May. Then again, looking at DH's airing schedule just now, leaving with a cliffhanger (even if the world already knows how it will end) when the next episode is weeks away -- April 19 to be precise, makes sense. In a way, the big event will conclude near the end of April and set the tone to the May episodes just as I first thought.

Dave planned it all. First, make an anonymous call to report seeing illegal hunters in the woods; thus setting part of his alibi in place. Then, we learned that he would lie about his knees hurting too much for a hike and that he would pretend to be sleeping when Katherine and Mike would leave for the hike; thus locking his alibi in place. He would then quickly grab his rifle, follow the couple, shoot Katherine, console Mike and bring him back home as a good friend would. But as Mary Alice let us know at the beginning of the episode, there is nothing simple about murder meaning that Dave's plan would no go, well, according to plan!

The sad thing is that his plan almost worked. If it weren't from Edie's text message, Dave would have more than likely killed Katherine and later kill Edie for knowing too much about his plan, etc. Two deaths instead of one.

Throughout the episode, I kept yelling at my TV screen so Edie would put the damn fax paper in!!! Luckily, she did it in the nick of time and since Dave forgot to turn his phone off -- a not so tight plan after all -- Edie saved the day without knowing it.

The confrontation between Dave and Edie was a nightmare to watch, especially since we knew what was coming. Even if spoilers said that she would die the way she really did, I was afraid that he would succeed in strangling her. Dave might be a mentally deranged character who should live in a psych ward, he kind of grew on me and I somewhat hope that he will be back next season. Something made Dave let go of Edie. Could it be that a spark of love for love hidden deep down inside made him let go of her throat?

Okay, I'll admit it, the way the episode ended leaves a door opened to a medical rescue so that Edie leaves. But unless you've been leaving under a rock this past month, you know she will stay dead. The way she died means that Dave could get a free pass. Remember that Dave is a master manipulator and liar so he could acknowledge that Edie and he argued, that he was a bit brutal (he surely left marks on her neck), and that when he let go because he "loves" his wife too much to kill her, she escaped in her car and her rage made her go off the road, etc., etc. So cops could say he is not at fault here but may order him to see a therapist for rage, brutality, etc. Could it mean that there is a door open for Dave to stick around Wisteria Lane? Than again, it wouldn't be surprising if news that he is Dave Dash makes it way to the other residents and cause him to flee.

I can't wait to see what effect the accident will have on Orson. Since Edie will die, people will not know that Edie crashed because she tried to not hit him. But was there someone who saw the whole scene? Maybe that woman Orson tried to rob? Will the accident have Orson stop stealing altogether or for a while? Will someone find out he is the one who has been stealing things; thus sending him back to jail? Where do you think this is heading to? Share your answers/theories in comments below.

Other tidbits of interest:
  • It felt very weird to see Leslie Boone play a Lucy that was almost a tyrant. When I see her on screen, I am always reminded of her role on Ed so it was difficult for me to process her storyline this week. One thing is certain, I'm glad Carlos decided to fire her so that the company would be a better place to work at. As I saw the storyline unfold, I was sure Carlos and Gaby were heading back to their Seasons 1 and 2 selves and seeing them try to be better people is a welcomed turn of events.
  • I know DH people would like to bring Jackson back in Susan's life when Gale Harold feels better but seeing Karl back and hearing that his wife left him and their son made me ponder a possible relationship between Karl and Susan. Not a loving one at first but maybe Susan, who is all alone right now, may offer to help Evan and Karl out so that Evan doesn't take a destructive path. This could mean more Karl and Susan scenes, which are always fun to watch due to their hate/hate relationship. Spending more time together could show Karl and Susan how each changed and maybe they would give their couple a second chance? I'm still a Susan/Mike shipper but I'm not saying no to Karl/Susan. With whom should Susan be?
  • How fun was it to see Gaby and Tom gossip/bitch? Tom is no Lee but now that he is a stay-at-home dad maybe he'll be invited to the rare poker games.
  • "I steal to hurt you," said Orson to Bree. I can't believe he wanted her to quit everything she loved so that he could be happy. And I doubt he would have really been happy with her being Mrs. Orson Hodge 24/7. The Orson we now see needs to be in control of everything, which would have led to a bad marriage since Bree, even though she aims to please, wants to be in control too. I was so happy to see Bree chose her happiness in the end since Orson is getting on my nerves. I want the old Orson back... sadly, I doubt he'll ever come back. I think the next step in their relationship may be divorce.
