Capt. Kirk's chair coming soon to a Trekkie's living room near you

A replica of Capt. Kirk's chair from the set of Star TrekYou cannot call yourself a true Trekkie without owning one of the following: an unopened Barbie Star Trek doll, a commemorative Shatner vs. Takei "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots" play set and a willingness to take the life of a combative Star Wars nerd in the show's defense.

Now you can add a fourth requirement to that list: a replica of the Captain's chair.

Trekkies across the country are building replicas of the Captain's chair that Kirk's alien babe loving butt sat in oh so many years ago. And they aren't hiding them in their parents' basements or backyard sheds from the prying, judgmental eyes of others. They are coming out of the closet and into their living rooms with them in a proud, defiant stance of their love.

The move to recreate the original set pieces isn't a new practice to Trekkies. A man in London recently remodeled his whole apartment to look like the set of Star Trek: Voyager. Of course, it's not entirely accurate because he has yet to convince a girl to set foot in the apartment who is willing to dress up like Seven of Nine.

Plus, these aren't non-interactive collectibles. The people who built these chairs do everything from watch TV to play Star Trek video games in them while they "pretend I'm in command of the fleet." Another one wants to put a working intercom system that he can operate from his captain's chair. If he could install a toilet in the seat, he would be set for life.

I'm sure there are a lot of closet and openly gay (and by gay, I mean happy and not Sulu) Trekkies out there in TV Squad Land. So this begs the question...

Would you put a replica of the Captain's Chair in your living room if you had one?
