Are there any big fans of TNT's Trust Me out there? I'm really curious to find out. I like the show, but it still hasn't hooked me. I thought it started out with a lot of potential, and the charismatic leads – Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanagh – are great, but that's not enough to keep me coming back every week. I guess most viewers feel the same way. Trust Me has been getting killed in the ratings for weeks, and now it looks like the show might never get a chance to find its groove. McCormack is reportedly ready to move on. He's been cast as the lead in an ABC comedy pilot produced by Tad Quill (Dirty Sexy Money).
That's right, it seems like he's leaving Trust Me -- and cable -- behind to return to network TV. The Hollywood Reporter article about McCormack's new gig stated that Trust Me, which THR calls Truth in Advertising (the show's original title), is not expected to return after it finishes its first season run.
I can't say I'm surprised, but I am a little disappointed. The Quill project is described as a multi-camera sitcom about "two friends who embark on very different lives." (I bet it'll have a laugh track too!) I'd much rather watch McCormack opposite Cavanagh on Trust Me – which I think could develop into a really good show after another season or so – than another blah ABC sitcom.
What do you think? Do you want Trust Me to stick around?

You know, I found this article from searching "Trust Me" "TNT" on Google News, because I was finally thinking to myself - after just this minute finishing last night's episode (Episode 8) - that I finally, really liked this show.
I am hooked on LOST and Mad Men, addicted to How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory, curiously following 24, and always loyal to Flight of the Conchords and Big Love on Sunday nights; that means my experience goes from outrageous comedy to ultraserious drama or sci-fi. Trust Me was finally settling into the void between the extremes; something interesting, charming, and funny.
Trust Me has found its groove with this week's episode, I think, and has taken the character drama and put it a little more into focus with the agency, where all the creativity and charm roams. I was hoping I'd find something in Google News about this show growing, getting stronger, or finding its footing (with other people than myself), but I guess it's not happening.
Looks like Trust Me will become another Journeyman, The Nine, or Studio 60 that came and went before it could build its identity in the impatient world of television.

I worked in an ad agency for years, but that's not enough for this to translate well to TV. You need to characters with real emotions. It can't be about the drama of advertising because most people don't care about that -- no one ever died from advertising, so it's hard to take it that seriously.
I really wanted to like the show, and didn't until the 3/10 episode which showed actual emotions from the characters, and that was the centerpiece of the episode, not necessarily the campaign. The campaign became the vehicle, not the focus. If they had done that earlier in the show's run it would be fine. I can totally understand how it didn't catch on.

I liked the lead actors in their previous work (Will & Grace and Ed), but I just don't buy them on this show.

Good riddance. I really wanted to like this series, but it was just bad. Worst of all, it was boring. A waste of two talented actors in Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanagh.

I agree, its over. I also watch a variety of programming, and tried to like this one but after about 4 episodes I really lost me. It didn't become MUST SEE DVR for me and I eventually deleted it. Both Eric and Tom are great actors and poor Tom hasn't found anything since ED. The chick from Boston Legal really annoyed me (whine whine whine) and there wasn't really any flow to the episodes or the show. The constant bickering to Eureka! between the two guys really got old. I think it is an interesting concept and could have been better written.
Not sure I'll watch the new comedy, sounds like both Eric and Debra are totally type-cast now. I wonder how Megan will fare on "In the Motherhood" which I'm not gonna watch.

I agree. I like this show. It just didn't grab me. I really like the actors, and I wanted to like this show more than I did. It just isn't something I would go out of my way to watch. If a show doesn't make me WANT to watch it, then it isn't doing it's job.

I actually really like this show. The pilot was a little shaky, but ever since then, I've been hooked. What sucks is that it's so much better than Raising the Bar, which is also on TNT and is coming back.

My first thoughts on Trust me were something along the lines of: "ok this isn't the usual medical or cop procedural that every network is picking up. It has some good actors and it's on cable so lets give it a shot!" What I found though is that although I like that it takes place in the world of advertising rather than a police station or hospital room it is the advertising focus that I like the least. I would be more interested in dealing with drama about the characters rather than drama about the advertising firm. It could have potential but the characters are not interesting enough to override the fact that the advertising storylines are not very interesting. I'm glad they tried it out but it may not be interesting enough to stay on for season 2.

There isn't enough of the major elements that shows in their first run should exploit: Fire, sex, a sense of justice or accountability (ie: the good guy wins in the end), sex, controversy, feminine appeal (Strong, independent female leads/supports and shirtless guys), guy appeal (naked women, beer, and brownies), inciting gossip, inciting discussion (water cooler), and sex.
Give this show a shot of all that and it might have had a chance. I tried to name everything I could that Saving Grace had in it that Trust Me didn't.

I love this show, but I agree, it somehow is losing the draw to watch every week. I do tivo it though. I work in the Ad-Sales industry and get every joke, every reference and wonder who in my office is leaking stories to the show writers? However, that might be the turn off. It might be a little too inside. But hey, 30 Rock makes it work and I think the Writers and Producers of Trust Me could too. (btw, I prefer the original title) I wish TNT would give it another shot... Let the audience find it, let it develop. But, working in the Ad-Sales based world, I understand but not necessary agree with the philosophy of no viewers, no money...

My wife and I loved Ed so we gave the show a shot. Things started out very slow and I'm not surprised that viewers dropped off. However, it is just so unfortunate that they did since last week's episode and this week's back to back episodes were really good. LOL good. I know the chances that the show will stick around is small, but add us to the small group of people that hopes it does.

Well, count me in among the people who liked the show, and will be sad to see it gone. It took a few episodes for my wife and I to decide we like it, but we do... I was hoping that by having it on TNT, it would be given more of a chance to find an audience (even after trying a different day -- it really didn't stand a chance airing on the same night as House and Heroes, among other shows!).
It always makes us wonder why we should start watching a show in the first season when this happens to programs we like... that's why we waited until the 2nd season of Burn Notice to start watching it!

I like Trust Me though though I realize it hasn't hit its potential. It's funny to read how some people are willing to quickly throw a decent show under the bus but everyone wants to give Whedon's "Dollhouse" a full season run even though it's quite worse than Trust Me.
The two problems that strike me with Trust Me are (1) Eric just looks old/tired and doesn't have the energy of his "Will & Grace" character, and (2) Tom's character is just too single-note with that ADD thing. I'd like to see the show succeed, the production values are good, but the story-arc just wasn't thought out well enough, at least to this point.

Trust Me isn't all that bad, but isn't great either from where I sit.
One big problem for me is an atmosphere of smug preciousness and a pervasive self-awareness. We know, by way of being hit over the head, who all the kewl kidz are supposed to be and who the 'dorks' are supposed to be. It feels more like a drama about high school than about a creative world and the human stories within that world. There's still some amount of entertainment to be found, but it's shallow and lacks the little weight that takes even a comedy beyond the average.
Mad Men is Tennessee Williams and Capote and Studs Terkel. Trust Me obviously doesn't aspire to those kind of heights, but the problem seems to me is that it doesn't really aspire to much at all and succeeds all to well in that. It's fluff, but feels like it could be more if only the effort were put in.

I'd really like to see McCormack and Cavanagh in a different show together. It's not that the show is bad it's just that nothing really happens. I think they have a good rapport with each other and some of the dialogue between them even sounds improvised/realistic

Trust Me is one of the BEST shows I have seen in a long long time. This show has everything! I can relate to almost every cast member. This show feels so fluid and natural. I hope this show goes on for at least 10 more seasons.
Just take a look at the TRUST ME groups in Facebook.
It's a HIT!

I loved Trust Me! precisely because it wasn't your typical cop/doctor or crazy reality tv show. The relationships between the characters and their own personal dramas unfolded slowly over the course of the season through the vehicle of various advertising campaigns. And while I don't work at an ad agency, I felt I could relate to the characters-their professional & personal struggles- more than any show I've watched in ages. Though some people complain about Connor, TNT admin are the only people with ADD here. They didn't give Trust Me the time and attention they needed to really blossom. Shameful!
