I'm pretty happy with the results tonight. I feel like America and the judges made the right call. And it isn't just up to America anymore. As Seacrest told us, there's a new American Idol rule. When someone is eliminated by America's vote, the judges have the ability to keep the person in the competition. It's designed to be used when America goes insane and votes people like LaToya London and Chris Daughtry off, people who deserve to stay in the competition. As I understand it, this option can only be used one time. Thankfully, the judges didn't use it tonight.
We also got to see the cool new digs where the Idols are staying. It's a ginormous mansion, complete with a swimming pool (or two), basketball court, bowling alley, hot tubs, the whole shebang. Looks like a very cool place to de-stress after being called to center stage to await your fate.

"We all know that Norman will not win 'Idol,' but I'm glad that he was in the Top 36, and he does have a good voice! He was very entertaining and funny, and I'm glad that he was chosen for Top 36! He will probably get some gigs in Hollyweird! I actually voted for him, ha ha!"

Feb. 26, 2009: Allison Iraheta Makes the Top 12

Feb. 26, 2009: Nick Mitchell Is Eliminated (For Now)

Feb. 26, 2009: Adam Lambert Makes the Top 12
"I didn't care for him at all. I thought he was way over the top and way too theatrical for that song. I'm sure he'll get through. I'll be interested to see what he does when they have themes. Maybe he'll grow on me, but right now I would put him second or third behind some of the other ones I've heard."

Feb. 18, 2009: Danny Gokey Makes the Top 12

Feb. 18, 2009: Michael Sarver Makes the Top 12
"I don't really get the appeal. I mean, he's a likeable guy, but as a performer, he just doesn't seem that good to me. I definitely thought Ricky and Anoop sounded better."

After the group sang a medley of top five Michael Jackson hits and the obligatory Ford commercial was shown, the results show got underway. Michael Sarver, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud, Kris Allen, and Megan Joy Corkrey were quickly put through to next week.
Jasmine Murray was not so lucky. After being eliminated, she stood in front of the judges, only to be told by Randy, "Sorry, Baby. You're headed home." She didn't get the judges' call to be saved. Aww, I feel bad for her, but it really was the right decision. She's an awesome singer for her age, but not quite in the same league as some of the others. And I appreciate the sympathy that Ryan gave her when she burst into tears after getting the news.
Up next was a performance by Kanye West. You know, I may be an old fuddy-duddy, but I don't really get Kanye West. First of all, pull your pants up, man, or the mystery will be over. Also, I'm not crazy about those robotic devices they use to make their voice sound like it's from outer space (though I'll make an exception for Rihanna). Maybe the point is they HAVE no voice, and thus have to use a device to cover up that fact. Whatever. Bring it, readers. There must be people out there who like him, and I'd love to hear why.
A few more contestants were quickly put through -- Alexis Grace, Scott Macintyre, Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert, and Lil Rounds. Then, either Anoop Desai or Jorge Nunez would be going home, but we'll have to find out after Kelly Clarkson sings "My Life Would Suck Without You," one of my favorite treadmill songs.
Then the final judgment: Anoop will be staying, and Jorge headed home. As with Jasmine, the judges chose not to use their benevolent powers to keep Jorge in the competition.
Any thoughts on the eliminations tonight?

100% correct. Hopefully it's Anoop next week. For some reason everyone loves him, and I'm sure when he gets eliminated, that's when the judges will use their veto power.

Geeze I hope they don't waste that on Anoop...but save it for someone who is a much better singer.
He's "likable" but this is supposed to be about singing...

There's no way the judges are going to save Anoop, when they will need to save someone like Allison or Alexis later on. Plus they seem to love Megan too for some completely incomprehensible reason. Or if somehow Adam gets booted off too soon, they will definitely save him.

I like having Megan on the show because she's the prettiest girl I've ever seen on this show...and we all know what Simon cares about most.
These decisions couldn't have been more right based on the performances unless Anoop was selected instead of Jorge. Jorge wouldn't have lasted another 3 weeks, so it's fine that he went down early, but Simon was a lot less kind to him than Randy was to Jasmine. Next week Anoop will be gone unless he blows up, and the judges will eventually use their save on Alison I think.

I feel that the right ones went home. If not tonight...then next week or the week after that. Anoop really did deserve one more week to show us what he has. I am looking forward to what he does next week. I know he'll make better choices. I do wish it would have been Megan going home instead of Jasmine though. Megan freaks me out just a little bit. Jasmine is a much better singer.

Sooner or later, Anoop is going to stop getting another chance to show us how good he is. I agree about Jasmine vs. Megan, but Anoop could also have been slid in there.

No surprises last night. I knew Jasmine was done. Jorge actually sang better than Megan and Anoop, but they clearly have a fan base he doesn't.
If nothing else, last night's results only served to remind us of the huge mistakes made last week by the voters (Jorge in the last group of 12) and the judges (Jasmine in the wildcard). Sorry to keep bringing it up, but we would have much different results if Felicia and Junot had made it instead. (I suspect Kris, Scott and Michael would have been vulnerable.)
My feeling on the new rule: Bogus. Why would they introduce a format that contradicts America's votes? Clearly, it's a trump card for the producers (I mean judges) to use when one of their favorites is booted because of a Vote For The Worst groundswell, e.g. Danny gets booted before Megan. I don't foresee it being used until there are only four singers left. Until then, it will only create additional heartache for the person leaving. (Really, did anyone think they would break it out for Jorge?)
Two other comments:
* Kanye sucked. Always has, always will.
* "My Life Would Suck Without You" may be a treadmill song, but not for Kelly. Girl is getting big!

I don't remember hearing this last night, but I just read on another site that the judges' trump card has to be used before the final five -- making my prediction wrong and the rule itself all the more pointless.

Jimmy, Ryan said they have to use it before they reach the final five and the reason is a simple one - if they save someone for a week, the next week's elimination will knock out two people instead of one. They can't really go from five contestants right down to three without screwing things up.

Except the rule can only be used up to the point when 5 singers are left. Once they are down to five singers, the rule no longer exists.

Right decisions all the way. Then again, maybe they should have eliminated Kanye West. He was awful! I'm sure if they had it to do again, they would never have invited him to perform.

I think that Megan has a really good voice. There is something different about her. I was sorry to see Jasmine go. I would have rather seen Lil go. I think she is just ordinary, nothing special. I think it should have been Anoop before Jorge, but even though the judges can step in, it is still America voting them into the bottom. I am not too impressed with the group as whole this year, or maybe I am just getting bored with the show. That Kanye West wasn't needed on there last night and quite frankly neither was Kelly whats her name.

Megan should have gone home.
Her rendition of Rockin' Robin was just hideous, and what was that "Kaw! Kaw!" at the end of the song??????

Jorge should have stayed and Anoop should be gone. My biggest question is what is so great about Adam? I think he is just average vocally. He has a very current hip look but he gives the impression of being very fake. Maybe different in person I don't see the attraction ... much like my feelings about Kanye West.

Jasmine just needs some vocal lessons, that's all. Her voice is good, but she needs work on some notes. As for the boy with black finger nails? Yuk. I think he was only chosen because of the song he sang, "black and white." He wasn't all that good. Maybe if they all didn't have to sing Michael Jackson songs we could've seen better out of most of them. They should have their own choice of what to sing.

Megan is not my choice, maybe she will go next. Adam is average, but several others are really good. I can tolerate the MC but I wish they would replace some of the judges. Yikes.
