American Idol: Top 13 elimination results

American Idol - 2 of 13 eliminated

I'm pretty happy with the results tonight. I feel like America and the judges made the right call. And it isn't just up to America anymore. As Seacrest told us, there's a new American Idol rule. When someone is eliminated by America's vote, the judges have the ability to keep the person in the competition. It's designed to be used when America goes insane and votes people like LaToya London and Chris Daughtry off, people who deserve to stay in the competition. As I understand it, this option can only be used one time. Thankfully, the judges didn't use it tonight.

We also got to see the cool new digs where the Idols are staying. It's a ginormous mansion, complete with a swimming pool (or two), basketball court, bowling alley, hot tubs, the whole shebang. Looks like a very cool place to de-stress after being called to center stage to await your fate.

Feb. 26, 2009: Nick Mitchell Is Eliminated (For Now)
"We all know that Norman will not win 'Idol,' but I'm glad that he was in the Top 36, and he does have a good voice! He was very entertaining and funny, and I'm glad that he was chosen for Top 36! He will probably get some gigs in Hollyweird! I actually voted for him, ha ha!"

Feb. 26, 2009: Allison Iraheta Makes the Top 12
"She is just awesome ... there is so much talent in that 16-year-old ... just amazing!! She really is my favorite so far. But it has been a tough couple of weeks as far as song choice!!!"

    -- DEBBIE8863

    Fox

Feb. 26, 2009: Kris Allen Makes the Top 12
"He's cute and I liked him but I thought that Matt had more potential."

Feb. 26, 2009: Nick Mitchell Is Eliminated (For Now)
"I honestly don't think Norman is the least bit funny. I think he is making a huge joke out of 'American Idol.' There are 35 other contestants that are being serious and really trying and then there is Norman."

    -- Bpadra

    Fox

Feb. 26, 2009: Megan Corkrey Is Eliminated (For Now)
"I knew I liked this wild card thing. Megan will be back."

    -- PETCRAB

    Fox

Feb. 26, 2009: Adam Lambert Makes the Top 12
"I didn't care for him at all. I thought he was way over the top and way too theatrical for that song. I'm sure he'll get through. I'll be interested to see what he does when they have themes. Maybe he'll grow on me, but right now I would put him second or third behind some of the other ones I've heard."

    -- JandeCBS

    Fox

Feb. 18, 2009: Danny Gokey Makes the Top 12
"When [Danny] and Tatiana were called up, he had the cockiest look on his face.
Like he's a really good singer, but whenever I see him, I just think about how cocky he looks."

    -- RoshanMcG

    Fox

Feb. 18, 2009: Alexis Grace Makes the Top 12
"Alexis is the whole package! So cute ... with such a big voice."

    -- clammy1954

Feb. 18, 2009: Michael Sarver Makes the Top 12
"I don't really get the appeal. I mean, he's a likeable guy, but as a performer, he just doesn't seem that good to me. I definitely thought Ricky and Anoop sounded better."

After the group sang a medley of top five Michael Jackson hits and the obligatory Ford commercial was shown, the results show got underway. Michael Sarver, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud, Kris Allen, and Megan Joy Corkrey were quickly put through to next week.

Jasmine Murray was not so lucky. After being eliminated, she stood in front of the judges, only to be told by Randy, "Sorry, Baby. You're headed home." She didn't get the judges' call to be saved. Aww, I feel bad for her, but it really was the right decision. She's an awesome singer for her age, but not quite in the same league as some of the others. And I appreciate the sympathy that Ryan gave her when she burst into tears after getting the news.

Up next was a performance by Kanye West. You know, I may be an old fuddy-duddy, but I don't really get Kanye West. First of all, pull your pants up, man, or the mystery will be over. Also, I'm not crazy about those robotic devices they use to make their voice sound like it's from outer space (though I'll make an exception for Rihanna). Maybe the point is they HAVE no voice, and thus have to use a device to cover up that fact. Whatever. Bring it, readers. There must be people out there who like him, and I'd love to hear why.

A few more contestants were quickly put through -- Alexis Grace, Scott Macintyre, Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert, and Lil Rounds. Then, either Anoop Desai or Jorge Nunez would be going home, but we'll have to find out after Kelly Clarkson sings "My Life Would Suck Without You," one of my favorite treadmill songs.

Then the final judgment: Anoop will be staying, and Jorge headed home. As with Jasmine, the judges chose not to use their benevolent powers to keep Jorge in the competition.

Any thoughts on the eliminations tonight?
