At least we know one thing about Jim Cramer: He may not have been able to predict the collapse of the Dow, but at least he has the cajones to face the comedian that's tearing him to pieces. That's right, folks: Cramer will be appearing on The Daily Show on Thursday to defend himself in the war of funny he's gotten into with Jon Stewart and his writers. If you didn't see TDS last night, Stewart shot back at Cramer, who went on various NBC shows to defend himself against TDS' "turd mining," as Stewart called it. In this case, it was a compilation of clips that showed Cramer sticking with Bear Stearns shortly before its 2008 collapse. That, of course, was after Stewart and company ripped CNBC as a whole for missing the current crisis. Video of last night's segment, which was dubbed "Cramer vs. Not Cramer: Basic Cable Personality Clash Skirmish '09!"
First of all, can I just tell you how good it is to see TDS latch on something, pit-bull style, in the post-Bush era? Their jokes about Obama have been OK, but they've rarely been able to pin anything on him like they've been able to do with Cramer and his cohorts. So, until Obama screws up (and I'm sure he will... he's human and a politician), TDS needs to find other targets. Thankfully, CNBC has provided those targets for him.
And say what you will about Cramer, but you have to give him credit for being the only one on CNBC to defend himself, albeit weakly. I can see tomorrow's interview -- which I bet will get the two-segment treatment usually reserved for ex-Presidents and Sandra Day O'Connor -- starting off funny and then getting dead serious. But at least it's going to happen. Maybe the rest of Cramer's CNBC colleagues will soon follow suit, including Rick Santelli, whose cancellation of his guest appearance started this whole thing to begin with.

I think it's assumed that they'll get into it tonight... What'll be interesting to see is if Cramer can't stand the heat and walks off in the middle of the interview. I'm looking forward to the throw down.

A number of people, not just ex-Presidents and Sandra Day O'Connor, get "two segment" interviews on The Daily Show. All you have to do to verify that is go to the website and search "part 2" and see the likes of Scott McClellan, Bob Dole, and Sebastian Junger that have gotten two part interviews. There are others, but the search and tag features aren't done very well so some are "part two", "continued", etcetera.

bd, I'm aware of that. But the ones that come to mind immediately are the ex-Presidents and O'Connor, because they just interviewed her. I guess I should have said "and other important politicians" for completism purposes.

Seems like much ado over nothing. Stewart wouldn't have had his little hissy fit if Santelli hadn't canceled.

Except, of course, that that video was set to air on the show he canceled on. If you ignore that, though, you're 100% right!

That's what Stewart said after the fact. But heck, even the Daily Show website said that Jon went on this rant after Santelli cancelled. I saw that as recently as this morning, though it seems to be gone now.

BD is right, the was segment was set to air on that day to liven up the talk. You don't change a whole segment in a day. that took a lil while to get written.
i loved stewart in the hills and dora.
