(S03E19) The hunter storyline reached a pivotal climax tonight, and there were lots of twists and turns along the way. The bottom line: Heroes produced another excellent chapter in this volume, and I'm sure we'll be reading soon about how horrible the ratings are and how the show is on the bubble for renewal. Honestly, I'm not sure if the sour taste of two bad volumes in a row has rendered the improvements irrelevant. Perhaps the show is doomed.
I'd hate to think so because it really is as sharp and exciting as it was during its inaugural season. The problem is figuring out how to lure those viewers back who've given up on the show. A guest appearance by John Glover, above, would be nice but it didn't seem to be too highly promoted. I get that it was an important plot twist, but still. NBC renewing and heavily promoting the fact of that renewal could help. We all know how quick people are to jump off of a dying show. If NBC shows some real faith in the show, it at least couldn't hurt it. Maybe, too, they should consider moving it from the Monday night logjam.
John Glover was fantastic tonight as Sylar's father. Dying of cancer, the make-up artists did a masterful job because he absolutely looked like shit. The entire sequence where Sylar cut himself, which you know he did on purpose to goad his dad into attacking, through his walking out on his dad who was begging his son to murder him was just beautiful to watch. I loved that Papa Sylar had the exact same ability as his son, thus giving Sylar a peek at what the future could hold.
Really, if you think about it, what else is there. He desires more abilities so he kills and steals them. And on and on. Where does it end? Obviously in the nastiest run-down shack imaginable dying of cancer. Upon leaving, Sylar told his father that he now knew what he had to do. But I don't know. Do you?
This episode saw lots of dramatic changes. I guess this might be the end of the first act of this volume. The Hunter was fired, and looked in a bad spot there at the end. Nathan was outed when the Hunter shoved him out a window. Claire's free pass expired and the agents came after her, and more importantly we saw just how vast Rebel's reach is. I really am hoping it's Micah because I loved that little kid. Great actor, great character.
I am curious as to what went down when Nathan was outed. Is the Hunter still fired from the squad? I should think so because if Nathan revealed how he'd set Matt up as the bomber there really wouldn't be any other choice. But Nathan may be out, too. That would leave Bennett in charge of the task force, which makes so much sense. And then we're back to Claire's free pass expiring. Would Noah really allow that, or does he not have a choice? Or maybe he thinks she's resourceful enough to get away, or is also somehow aware of Rebel.
It's all very confusing right now, but I like that. What makes Lost great is the mysterious motives of people and all the questions it leaves lingering even as it reveals something new. Heroes used to be great at this and seems to be getting back there. They also remembered, somewhere along the way, that they had cast these two Japanese characters that fans liked. Remember them?
Hiro and Ando tracked Matt Parkman to a house somewhere, and he was there when they got there. And we learned that the writers didn't forget, after all, that Matt had a pregnant wife back in the day. Because now there's a little Matt Parkman hanging around. Maybe we'll follow up on Nathan's family at some point, too.
The highlight of the episode, for me, was that Claire was actually somewhat useful, though I'm not sure how she toppled that guy over the rail and rendered him unconscious. She's literally the size of a Barbie doll. I was glad to see her help the Puppetmaster because I love that character. I hope we're not done with him. But now that she's in Nathan's arms, where do we go from here?

I think 'rebel' is going to be Hana Gitelman. If you read about her powers and character in the original 9th wonders comics that accompanied the 1st series, she would seem like the obvious candidate although she apparently died blowing up a satellite at the end of that, so I may be wrong....Great storyline though!

the chances of that are slim to none, they killed her character, and Drucker, pretty much eliminating the chance for her return. And that actress is on ABC now.

Actually (in the web-comic), Hana's physical body died, but her consciousness escaped into the internet. Therefore, she is still a very possible candidate for Rebel. Also, since she's just bits and sprites now, NBC wouldn't necessarily need the woman who originally played the part.

Okay, removing foot from mouth. I completely forgot about that death of Hana Gitelman story in the web-comic.

Great episode, probably the best of this season. Christine Rose is one hell of an actress. Her scene with Danko was priceless. Kudos to Quinto and Glover for their excellent work as well. My guess is that Rebel is Micah and that he is being assisted by Angela. It's the only thing that makes sense.

What do you mean we'll be reading about how the show is on the bubble? I thought NBC announced last week that Heroes has been renewed for another season with a 20 episode order?

Rebel is Sylar. It's his big plan to get all the Heroes together and have a grand buffet. No of course not, it's likely Micah.
I enjoyed this episode, glad to see Hiro and Ando back.
Oh yeah, did anyone notice a couple of the background BuyMorons were in the comic book store? Guess they hangout there after working their shift.

Heroes got renewed last week. If only there was a website to tell me such important TV related news...

It was a joke....Jason was being sarcastic based on the fact it's become a popular past time of some to bash this show.
I'm personally so tired of how people talk about the show being terrible. In fact, one poster on here yesterday said "it's just bad TV."
That's just not true. The show is still good, as evidenced by last night, and next week looks even better with all he// looking like it's about to break lose. I personally can't wait.

Lionel Luthor is Sylar's father!
Think of the crossover possibilities. The Heroes are meteor freaks. Claire meets a cute guy in Metropolis. Hiro gets tights and a cape. Nah! It'll never work because Heroes only rips off Marvel. So Hiro gets tights but no cape.

HRG is Rebel, at least that has always been my guess.

It seemed to me that the security camera that was prominently in the background when the Hunter was challenging Nathan was blinking red at first. Then, just before Nathan was shoved out of the window, the red light went off (Rebel/Micah?). So, if my eyes were correct, that means that there's no surveillance record of Nathan using his powers, and it's just Danko's word against Nathan and HRG.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one that noticed that.
So, if HRG and Nathan are in charge, why did Claire free pass run out?

Dude, good eye...this is the kind of info I come here for!
I LOVED this episode, Heroes is definitely at a high level now that can only be bashed by those who simply don't like the show for personal reasons. I had a blast watching last night, and I hope baby Parkman does something cool to help Hiro get back to his old way.
Hana could be the Rebel because the comics aren't canon to the show, so her death might not be permanent. But I think it's Micah with Molly's help...both of them are alive, both have spare time to act in the show and their powers would work perfectly as Rebel.

There were two interesting outcomes of the Sylar-Daddy plotline:
- Sylar was given the idea that he's been after small fries and what he really needs is a bigger challenge and a chance to do things on bigger scale, to "change the world". This ties in nicely with his ascent to presidency.
- Sylar told Daddy that he got his healing power from a cheerleader in California. Will Daddy go after Claire?

As one of those huge Heroes fans who has been losing hope over the past couple of months, this was the episode to bring me back over. As soon as I heard the music for the "previously on Heroes" thing, I felt this strange level of comfort, like I knew this was going to be a good episode.
I effing loved how this episode ended. It had a lot of season 1 qualities to it. I can't explain how, but it did. I really didn't see alot of what happened today coming. I though Glover was going to be in an arc of episodes. I certainly didn't expect the cancer.
Oh I just feel so... pleased over this episode. Thank you Heroes, now keep it up for 7 more weeks!

"What makes Lost great" is what makes Heroes suck.
I'm sorry, but I'm done being an apologist for this show. Nathan sealed that for me last night. Once again we're getting flipflop motives and actions for his "character"... It's hard to even call it that, it's so poorly written.
At this point, I think it'll be hard to salvage, based solely on the bitter taste in my mouth. Kill 'em all, let Micah lead a new generation of Heroes.
