Ed McMahon in the hospital in very serious condition

One of television's biggest success and tragedy stories has started to take a turn for the worse.

TV legend Ed McMahon, 85, has been in the hospital for the last month and his condition has only gotten worse.

TMZ reported a source close to the family said his condition has been upgraded to "extremely serious" since he has been moved into an intensive care unit. He has also contracted pneumonia, which at his age can make things very serious.

This news has become the apex of a misery pile that's already full of sad stories about his mounting legal and financial troubles.

He's had to deal with almost losing his home, only to have billionaire Donald Trump bail him out in the zero hour. He ended up selling his home to a private buyer instead. That's a smart move. The Trumpster has too many money troubles of his own. Trump has filed for bankruptcy so many times that he should name his next child "401(k)."

Then he's been sued by Merv Griffin's company for money he borrowed and never paid back that must be a huge pain in the beck. That's on top of the suit he filed against Cedar-Sinai Medical Center for a botched spine operation that left him increasing pain after his release and must be a huge non-metaphorical pain in the beck.

The lowest point, in my humble opinion, was that horrific Cash4Gold ad he did with M.C. Hammer during the last Super Bowl. It was demeaning, opportunistic and just plain mean. It made me want to take my unused gold and flush it down the toilet, just so Cash4Gold would have to dig through my septic tank to prove how low they were willing to go to get it.
