Here's some good news for people who have missed Andy Richter since he stopped being Conan O'Brien's sidekick nine years ago: NBC just announced that he's signed on to be the announcer of The Tonight Show when Conan takes it over in June. Now, this doesn't mean that we'll see Andy on the couch next to Conan, as he was in Late Night's early years. He's the announcer; think of what John Melendez does for Leno and add the fact that, you know, Andy actually has comedic talent. Richter will announce the show and participate in both live and pre-taped comedy bits.
For fans of Andy Richter the actor, though, this isn't good news. After starring in two very funny failed sitcoms, Andy Richter Controls the Universe and Andy Barker, P.I., it seems like his returning to the daily Conan fold would preclude him from starring in another one anytime soon. But that also means he won't star in another Quintuplets, either, so maybe this is a good idea.

He said thanks to to Godard in the finale last week so presumably he wont be making the trip to LA. Despite the claims that Conan wont "grow up" on the Tonight Show, I dont think the sexual bits that involved Joel would probably not play well with the 11:30 sponsors.

This is absolutely great news, and bad news at the same time.
Just by mentioning Andy Richter's name, The Tonight Show will, far and away, have the funniest announcer in the history of Late Night talk shows.
But have you heard Andy's voice? Can you imagine him saying "Its the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien!!!" in his nasal tone?

Is it any worse than Stuttering John and his Long Island accent?

I don't think this is bad news for Andy Richter fans who want to see him act again. In fact, it could be great news. It once again puts him in a spotlight where he can be noticed again. If he does well and the Tonight Show with Conan does well, Andy may get a ton more acting jobs. After all, now that the show is in L.A., Andy can carry 2 jobs if need be. And, seriously, I always thought Andy may be great as a C character on something like "The Office" rather than having to carry a show.

Thank you for reminding me about "Andy Barker, P.I." - I loved that show! Just found it on Hulu. Gotta go watch me some "Three Days of The Chicken"!

Conan was clearly happy to have Richter back on his final show. Much happier than was obvious to me would be the case. Conan must really feel a strong connection to Richter, so good for Richter for securing a well-paying regular gig!

I like Andy Richter's stuff but I still think that he and Conan have a very uncomfortable chemistry.
I'd prefer if Andy went off and did his own thing.
