Survivor contestant fired from job for going on TV

SurvivorPossible spoiler follows, though I don't think so. But I'll still use the word "they" instead of "he" or "she."

It must be hard to go on a reality show. Besides the insults you're bound to get from viewers, critics, family, and friends (unless you win a bunch of money, of course), you have to leave your job for quite some time. Then again, if you're going on a reality show to live on an island or in a house or whatever, you're probably looking for another life for yourself anyway.

One of the contestants from Survivor has been let go from their job. But they don't seem to care.

Coach has been fired from his soccer coaching position by Southwest Baptist University. Officials at the school say that Ben Wade (that's his real name when he's not going by, um, "Coach") told them that he was only going to be gone for a week but the week "went beyond that, which went beyond that, which went beyond that." I wonder if that's a clue that Coach will be on the show for a while. Of course, even contestants who are voted off early have to stick around out of the public for several weeks, so maybe it's not a clue at all. Still, I would think he would have known that he would be gone for more than a week. He did return to the school two months later, in mid-December.

Coach says that he's not worried because he's "going to be the next big thing on the big screen." I'm sure statements like that won't have many viewers rooting for him. Survivor airs tonight at 8 on CBS.
