Back in October 2007, we learned that FOX was looking into making a Prison Break spin off set in a prison for women. The plan was to introduce the new series as an episode of Prison Break. This way of testing the waters before officially launching a spinoff has been used to introduce series such as NCIS and Private Practice and will be used this spring to launch the planned Gossip Girl and NCIS's spinoffs.

The Prison Break spinoff idea was put on the back burner and most of us thought it would never happen after all. However, a casting call for PB's episode 4.23 makes me think that FOX is going forward with the spinoff set in a prison for women, especially now that Prison Break has been cancelled. Or they at least want to test the idea before making their final decision.

Spoilers for episode 4.23 and potential Prison Break spinoff coming up!

Website SpoilerTV posted a casting call today for episode 4.23. Here are some excerpts that make me think FOX is going forward with the spinoff:

• Daddy: A tough and powerful older female inmate at Miami-Dade Women's Prison. She runs the motor poll detail and has fashioned a family for herself on the inside.
• Warden Alice Simms: Insecure Warden for Miami-Dade Women's Prison.
• Cowler: Hard-hearted female prison guard.
• Tracy: Prison guard who appears to be sympathetic at first but reveals herself as a brutal enemy with a grudge.
• Jenny: Submissive inmate and is one of Daddy's "kids".
• Skittlez: Female over-sized inmate who is mentally unstable and intimidating.

Most of these characters are also set to appear in episode 4.24. The casting call entries about characters who are in the women's prison use the word "new prisoner" in order to not let the cat out of the bag as which Prison Break female will end up in jail. However, the casting call for the role of Cowler does mention that the guard will be "susceptible to Gretchen's charms," which makes me think that Gretchen will end up behind bars. Interestingly too, it is said that the new inmate is pregnant...

I must say that out of all of the Prison Break females (including the women who work at the Company, such as the brothers' mother), Gretchen is the character that would make me tune in to give the spin off a chance. So I hope it does turn out to be her in jail if the spinoff does happen because I would definitely not tune in to watch Sarah be the new fish on the block.

By the way, I didn't post here the Prison Break spoilers within the cast call. If you watch the series and want to be spoiled, I suggest you go check the casting call out as the words "pastor" and "newlyweds" are mentioned.
