Nicolette Sheridan to leave Desperate Housewives... for real this time!

Desperate Housewives
Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we? On May 2, 2008, I posted an article about Nicollette Sheridan probably leaving Desperate Housewives. Actually, 2008 was not the first year we heard rumors about the actress maybe leaving Wisteria Lane for good. We heard the rumor at the end of each season since Sheridan joined the series.

What's different with this year's rumor about the actress leaving the show? Well, it turns out Sheridan will be leaving the show for real this time!

Slight spoilers about the show coming up!

Gossip columnists were quite busy yesterday when the news leaked as they tried to do their best to find out if 1) it was true this time around, 2) how the character would be written off. Answers were found: 1) ABC and Sheridan's rep confirmed the actress will leave the show at the end of the current season. 2) According to E!, Edie will find out that her husband plans to kill her. As she tries to escape, Edie gets in an accident and dies.

As for how the character will exit, E!'s information comes from an early version of the script that includes Edie's departure. It is possible that she doesn't die but just decides to leave Wisteria Lane for good or that she dies differently. Either way, Edie will not be part of the show next season.

What's interesting is that Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is still not convinced that Nicolette Sheridan will indeed leave the show. In his latest issue of "Ask Ausiello", he does confirm that Sheridan's rep said the actress would leave the show and that ABC said Edie would not be part of next season but he leaves his readers with a "I'm still not convinced" comment.

Could it be that the network and the actress' rep are lying so to keep fans wondering all summer long if Edie is dead or not? Who knows, maybe the season finale ends with Edie in that accident but not clearly showing us if she is dead or alive? The network and Sheridan could have agreed to say that the actress is leaving the show to keep her surprised return next season, well, a surprise?

Or maybe Ausiello is saying he's not convinced she is really leaving the show because she could still return as a recurring or guest star?

What's your take on this? Do you think the actress will really leave the show or not? Do you think it will hurt the series or not?

Personally, I enjoy Edie's antics but I don't think I'll miss her that much especially if they give her screen time to Katherine!
