Last week, we learned that Jerry Springer would not return as host of NBC's America's Got Talent due to other commitments. TV Squad readers and I made a few suggestions to the network as to who could take on the role: David Hasselhoff, Brian Dunkleman, Neal Patrick Harris, and George Hamilton. The network went with option 5: Nick Cannon. As you can see, the audition and elimination process to find a new host was quite fast when compared to the months it takes to discover the next greatest sensation in America on the show! For sure, Cannon didn't have to perform in front of a live audience and the show's three judges -- Piers Morgan, David Hasselhoff and Sharon Osbourne -- to get the job.
I don't know Cannon at all -- except from Drumline -- so I cannot give my two cents on if the network made a good decision or not. However, reading that he is a musician, comedian, actor and producer, makes me think that Cannon could be a good fit for the show.
TV Guide reports that Cannon, who is married to singing diva Mariah Carey, will not only host AGT but will also take part in other NBC projects.

I guess I assumed that Mr. Carrey was a bigger star than this. Hosting duties on America's Got Talent seem a little beneath him. Maybe not.

I never heard of him before he married Mariah Carrey. I didn't know he even had any "talent". I thought he was just a boy-toy or something... The more you know™

Isabelle Carreau your age is showing...... Since you are not familiar with the work of one of the hottest young talents to emerge from television in the last decade.
Where have you been??? Don't Sleep....(thats street slang for wakeup!)
Nick Canon is an enterprise not just a talent.
He started getting work at 16 and quickly became a force becoming the youngest television producer ever.
Working like a madman to gain leverage he diligently worked his way up as the Nickolodean audience warm up guy he snagged his very own show on the network and several others before his rise to DrumLine Fame and several other films including Men in Black..but it was not until MTV Hit SHOW "Wild N OUT" did I think more people got to see how talented he was.
He has Plenty of hosting experience..his show was a huge hit among his demographic...and that is only television. not to mention his record label.
He is a business man...and a model template that all performers should take note of.
I don't mean to take away from all the hard work he's done to maintain his success by saying this.....Every move is calculated....whether its Ameirica's Got Talent...or being Mr Mariah Carey...its all in the business plan.....just ask Lenny Kravitz.

Your age is showing? Why must you be so insulting? There are plenty of 20-year-olds who don't have a clue about Nick Cannon. He's not even remotely close to being a household name.
