You know, sometimes I think Grey's Anatomy isn't so much about the drama on screen, since the behind-the-scenes drama always seems to trump the fictional stuff. Is the Meredith / Derek love-fest as interesting as the Heigl / Knight quit-fest? It seems that the entire cast of Grey's is suffering from a medical condition: a giant, gaping hole in the center of their face that just doesn't quit gabbing.Just when the whole Isaiah Washington big-mouth scandal and subsequent firing finally blows over, we begin hearing rumors that T.R. Knight is going to be let go. Then we are assured that isn't the case, only to hear that Knight is very vocal in begging to be let go.
Katherine Heigl couldn't let Knight get all the limelight, though; it started with her obnoxious behavior when she pulled her name for consideration of an Emmy nomination, blaming the writers for her crappy storylines. Then it morphed to her sleeping-with-the-dead-guy storyline (she asked for it!) which only made us think more about Izzie leaving the show with a fatal condition. We know you think you're better than TV, Katherine, now shut up about it.
Now, it seems there's another big mouth in the cast of Grey's Anatomy. It seems the chief, played by James Pickens, confirmed that both Knight and Heigl will be leaving Grey's Anatomy. Whoops, it looks like he spoke too soon, because TPTB at Grey's are trying to secure story arcs for George or Izzie for next season. Just let them go, for crying out loud!
Maybe, if Knight and Heigl really do leave Grey's, the mouths will finally shut and we can just enjoy the on-screen drama again. That is, if the writers can deliver consistent quality, but that's another post....

One can only hope! This show has seriously jumped the shark. It was good up to the season 2 break, then something happened to it... I hope the entire cast, writers, and producers all leave the show.
That'll make room for something new!

I agree. This series has been mediocre at best since season 2. If Heigl and Knight go I can't see how it would hurt the show. Shonda Rhimes and Co. ruined those characters last year and they've never really recovered from it.

Really imagine how much better the show would have been had these two idiots not been stirring up trouble on the set all the time. God save us from the self-promoters with triple the ego and half the talent.

Really? Bitching about stars 'opening their mouths' when you're among the masses making mountains out of each mistaken mole hill with multiple posts on irrelevant drivel and speculation?
Bravo. Journalistic standards hard at work.

Wait. T.R. Knight is still on the show? I must have missed his 5 seconds of air time these last few weeks. When he's gone can we have Isaiah Washington back? I miss Burke.

Heigl needs to stay and get more air time!!! Of course not with her dead boyfriend but get her some good stuff! TR can go - if he doesn't know a good thing he can sit on the unemployment line!!

"blaming the writers for her crappy storylines"
Well, they write the show, nicht wahr? She doesn't make up the plot and her dialog.

I think the whole Heigl pulling out of the emmys was way overblown. She knows how the emmys like to nominate and award the years previous winners despite the performances they had that year. Her dropping out surely helped Dianne Wiest get nominated (and eventually win).

I think Grey's used to be a good show, but all of the drama did it in. I think Shonda Rhimes had things planned out, but when Isaiah Washington did his thing, she had to let him go, which probably destroyed what she had already arced out. Then, Heigl asked for a lower position, which again affected the writing and now she has to contemplate writing out H & K. However, my hope is that once/if the latter two leave, the drama will die down and she can re-boot the show from the start working on the good stuff -

Thank you for finally writing about what many of us have been thinking about this painful show. It's really been a ridiculous ordeal putting up with mediocre shows like Grey's Anatomy, and Katherine Heigl really needs to go. Somewhere. Far away.
The antics and grandstanding from two people who should feel privileged to be acting in a prime-time show have made this poorly-written season even worse. And I agree that the show became a soap opera after the end of the second season.
I think it should be pointed out that Shonda Rhimes deserves an equal amount of criticism because of her crap storylines and for forcing Izzy/Denny upon the public for the umpteenth time. Even with the vile reaction to the Izzy/Denny storyline from fans, she still stuck it to viewers for multiple episodes.
Mindless children don't watch GA. Mindless adults do. Get it right, Shonda!

Debra, no matter what you say you cant deny these facts:
1) Shonda Rhimes handled isaiahgate badly, by not severely punishing him sent an uneven message to the rest of the cast, that started the ball rolling downhill, they had NO respect for her after that.
2) The writing is inconsistent and downright idiotic at times, far below the level one would expect especially when surrounded by shows like Lost, House, Gossip Girl, Battlestar Galactica, even the rebooted 90210 for crying out loud!!!
3) Rhonda is a failure in managing the show, the actors are not happy, and the writers are incompetent, something should change, someone has to go.
Now i pose a question for you, WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY AT A JOB YOU HATE? Isnt it their right to be asked to be let go if they feel they are unhappy? TR has barely got over 10 seconds screentime in the last few episodes.
There are cases where tv actors, who are doing well in movies, continue to stay on the TV show which launched them due to a sense of respect and loyalty to the show's creators. For example, Ashton Kutcher stayed on an extra season or 2 on that 70's show, Zach Braff agreed to finish up the Scrubs series for Bill Lawrence, although he was considering quitting.
These show has failed due the gross incompetence of Shonda and her idiot writers. The facts prove that.

Phish, I totally agree with all of your "facts." I'm not even blaming Knight and Heigl for wanting to leave; just saying that they don't have to be such public big mouths about it so that the behind the scenes drama becomes bigger than the fictional one. And yeah, the crappy writing lately does have a lot to do with that too.

Like it or not, Kat Heigl is the best actress on the show. TR Knight, however, is completely disposable. Nonetheless, this show has been on the skids for a year now. The whole dead Denny thing, the Derrick/Meredith "on again/off again" thing (who cares? For believable tension in relationships, the writers have to make us care. I don't.), and the departure of Burke... the show suffered from the loss of the Burke character. And Sandy Oh, the second best actress on the show, has been completely under-utilized this season. Wake up writers... it's not too late, but you've gotta do something good, and fast.

I know you're stating your opinion (and clearly, not fact) about Katherine Heigl, but the best actress (in my opinion) is Chandra Wilson... who plays Bailey.
(IMHO) Katherine Heigl is mediocre in her acting skills, and watching her sub-standard chick flicks provides evidence of that. If you watched the Emmys when she won hers, the audience wasn't enthusiastic at all about it (perhaps they're all jaded anyhow).
Even though I think Chandra Wilson is the best actress on the show, I think Shonda Rhimes is trying to change her character into a over-emotional mess, compared to the hard-@ss that she was in the first two seasons.
This show really is a mess now.
