Futurama: Into The Wild Green Yonder - An early look

FuturamaFor those of you lucky enough to catch the screening of Futurama's final direct-to-DVD adventure for the foreseeable future, Into The Wild Green Yonder, at the New York Comic Con (like me), then you already know how awesome this movie is and don't need to read any further. For the rest, this review is for you.

The story begins with Leo Wong, wealthy entrepreneur and father of Amy, who is trying to build a bigger and better Mars Vegas. This would include an interplanetary golf course that uses a black hole as one of its, er, holes. Over time, we learn that he's trying to destroy a planetoid that is growing indigenous life at an accelerated rate in order to build this.

Leela is naturally appalled at this turn of events, so she joins up with an army of feminist conservationists (called Feministas) that wear pink fatigues. Eventually, all the women in the series join the same army. Several other plots abound, such as Fry gaining telepathic abilities and Bender sexing it up with the Donbot's, er, lady (she's named Fanny, because she has a giant fan on her ... well, you know). A previous plot point from the series, in which Fry's brain can't be detected by mind-readers, comes into play in this movie.

I'm leaving out a lot of details. This movie seemed tighter than the previous two and the jokes were rapid-fire during the first 15 minutes (they eased up as the story moved along, but they were still there). Bender's Big Score was the best of the new batch story-wise, but this one is a close second. The plotlines came together nicely and the ending, while wrapping things up so that fans would be satisfied (well, as much as fans can be satisfied), leaves things open enough for the possibility of future episodes (please, please, please).

For a possible last glimpse of Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Fry, Leela and Bender, get this movie. If you're begging to see Snoop Dogg as a Supreme Court justice or simply want to know the final fate of Teller, this is the DVD to get. If you want a good story with lots of laughs and an ending that is both happy and weird .... oh, just buy the thing already.
