(S05E14) "Use it wisely." - Owen to Mark about.... well... you know!Fun fact: The day following the airing of "Stairway to Heaven," the top Google searches where for expressions like "penile fracture" and "broken penis." Thankfully, after getting treatment and not using his tool for a few days, Mark is back in shape! I must admit seeing Owen and Mark quickly enter and exit the exam room to check on it was probably the most hilarious scene of the week. Yes, in my book it was funnier than those scenes with the man who had something (why couldn't they tell us what in the end?!?) lodged in his behind. It wouldn't surprise me if people research that latter case on Google today to find answers as to what was lodged where it didn't belong!
Some of you may say that the funniest scene of the week was when Cristina was ordered to hug Dixon. I must admit I laughed out loud for a second or two while watching Cristina realize that she had no choice but the scene as a whole was not funny. Dixon was in distress and needed to be calmed down. The hugging also seemed to help Bailey a bit. When it was near the end of the hugging fest, Bailey actually looked peaceful rather than tired of hugging as Cristina was. With the emotional roller coaster Bailey was going through this week, she herself definitely needed some hugging to calm her down.
So everyone but Meredith knows that Derek is about to propose. I suspect that Cristina really told Meredith about the proposal but quickly fixed her error by claiming it was written in Ellis's journal. Of course, the reason why he has to back out from his first attempt to propose is because his ex-wife, Addison, calls for help! Personally, I don't think Addison coming to Seattle Grace will have Derek back out of his idea to propose all together. Her presence may remind him of how his first marriage didn't work out but since Shonda Rhimes claimed that she is now dedicated to making Derek and Meredith work, I think we'll see him propose to Meredith before the end of the season.
Other tidbits of interest:
- No Denny this week! Yay! Izzie used the interns to have loads of test administered on her. We know she is anemic but don't know yet what she has because all the tests the interns did didn't find something wrong. She'll either need more precise (and invasive) tests or maybe have a one on one with a psychiatrist to learn the cause of her visions.
- Mark really seems to love Little Grey. Question is, will he not allow himself to date her now that Derek will propose to Meredith, or will he follow Callie's suggestion and actually allow himself to be happy for a change? I hope he chooses the latter because I'm starting to be a Mark/Lexie shipper.
- It was heartbreaking to watch Bailey go through her fear of having another kid die under her watch. Bravo to Chandra Wilson for her acting. She deserves a statue for her work. Now that Dixon and Arizona told her she would be a great pediatrics surgeon will Bailey ask the Chief to recommend her for such a position? And if so, will the Chief agree? To create more drama, the Chief could agree but, behind her back, work his magic to have her get the general surgeon position because that's where he wanted her at first.
- Even if it was a tad cheesy, I loved the scenes between Cristina and Owen and the music that enhanced those scenes. Those two are really beginning to fall in love for one another. So who is this blonde woman from Owen's past? She must have done some pretty awful things to him for Owen to go in distress like that. Luckily, Cristina learned that hugging was sometimes the best treatment. My bet is that the woman dated Owen at one point.
- Again this week, George got about 10 seconds of screen time.
If you didn't watch last night's episode of Private Practice, titled "Acceptance," I suggest you watch it online (USA go here and click on "watch free episodes", Canada go here and click "play" under the PP episode) as it will give you the needed background on why Addison called Derek at the end of the episode. This will allow you to be fully ready for next week's installments of the Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice crossover.

No mention of Arizona kissing Callie?

Thanks for you to mention it! I guess it wasn't a huge surprise to me because I knew it was coming (that's one of the downsides of reading spoilers, sometimes, the WTF?OMG! moments don't seem as WTF?OMG!-y).
Could it be that the GA people are once again trying the Callie is a lesbian storyline because of the backlash they got over firing Brooke Smith, thus ending the Callie-Hahn storyline?

This was a great episode. One of the funniest moments for me was at the end... bend over backwards... when the Chief couldnt contain himself any longer. Also, I have a feeling that the interns mixed up the blood work, and Izzy has cancer, not anemia...

Oh... I like that theory very much even if Shonda Rhimes kept saying it wasn't cancer. The latest rumors say that she may have changed her mind... but nothing concrete to back up those rumors yet.
However, it could explain why Sadie will leave Seattle Grace: she made a huge mix up in blood tests!

That was my first thought as well. I wonder how long it will be now before we find out the truth...

Totally!
When the results came back I looked at my wife and said that they screwed up the results!

given the foreshadowing my guess in the future it will be revealed the intern inadvertently switched the blood tests with the actual patient...leaving Izzie with the cancer diagnosis versus anemia.

I think that Meredith's mother's diaries still will become important. Will they reveal that the Chief is Meredith's real father? And Christina will have to tell her...

As one of the few people who watches Private Practice but not Grey's Anatomy, would it be worth it to watch any of last night's episode of Grey's. I have yet to watch last night's Private Practice.

Nope, it wouldn't be worth it. Just known that Patrick Dempsey (Derek) wants to propose to a character named Meredith and that Addison was married to Derek and dated a Grey's Anatomy character named Mark Sloan.
However, you MUST watch next week's Grey's because Addison, Naomi, and Sam will be part of the episode to help out Archer.

I have the same feeling about the blood work. However, I think this show is unraveling right before our eyes. The cheesy Romeo and Juliet thing between Christina and the guy from Rome was so irritating but one of the most real moments when Grey walked in on him passed out with Christina. Also the new heart doctor is too much. She looks like Kristin Wiig doing a bad impression and it’s for a lack of a better word dumb. The characters are there, they just need to reel it in.

Ausiello says Izzie is not anemic, but doesnt say what that means.
The episode was good, but I was disappointed about how the previews showed this episode would be. The whole Derek proposing is getting sooo old. Didnt they decide to get married a long time ago? (I actually had Burke and Christina's engagement mixed up with Mer-ders at first, thinking about the Ferry Boat fiasco). I was hoping Meredith was pregnant, when she talked about having cuter kids. (That would have been a good surprise, and made the proposle thing a bit tricker)

the girl that set off Owen...is it possible she may be the wife/sweetheart/sister of someone Owen served with/watched die/worked on in Iraq?

I agree w/ everyone except those who didn't enjoy Owen and Cristina. If you listen to the official podcast, Shonda Rhimes sees that couple as a Victorian couple. so their initial scenes in this episode conveyed that; since Owen has already told us he hasn't had a date in over 5 years, my guess is that woman is the widow/girlfriend of someone who died in Iraq, wh/ threw him in shellshock. and I agree about Izzie - those tests were mixed up. it wouldn't be the first time that happened on the show.

I believe that on the previews for next week, Christina says "His fiance is in the hospital"...I can only deduct that she's probably talking about Owen and the mystery girl...

Did anyone else notice the tie in with Ugly Betty? The magazine that the guy with the thing stuck in him was MODE. I just thought that was a neat detail thrown in by ABC.

Any guesses as to the hidden object? It made a metallic clang when the chief removed it and dropped it into the slop bucket. Her wedding ring maybe?
