Why does that reality show contestant look so familiar? - VIDEO

the amazing race mike whiteJust when you thought everyone you knew, ever, had endured their 15 minutes on some reality show, you've been hoodwinked. It's no longer just the lady in accounts payable who you spotted on Cheaters or your brother's friend whose family appeared on Wife Swap. These days, it's low-profile celebs, too, who are seeking a 16th minute, and no longer exclusively via humiliation on VH1.

Mike White, the quirky writer-director-actor best known for indie flicks like Year of the Dog, Chuck and Buck, and School of Rock, will be appearing on The Amazing Race with his dad, Mel. When asked whether he and his old man got along throughout the course of the show, White said, "Compared to some of the other teams, I think we got along like a Hallmark card."

If that isn't weird/awesome enough for you, also arriving on the next season of Survivor (with little fanfare, mind you) is Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George, one-third of the 90s R&B trio SWV (she also penned the book, Player HateHER: How To Avoid The Beat Down And Live In A Drama Free World). How a successful, Grammy-nominated musician can randomly surface as a contestant on the umpteenth season of a reality show without it being a relatively big deal signals that reality TV may have finally jumped the shark as a genre.

Well, either that or producers are now being forced to assign applicants to one of two categories: Flavor of Love Skank and Everybody Else.

Taj and Mike, our thoughts are with you.
