This summer, I wrote about my love for all things V -- including lizard babies and future Freddie Kreuger aliens -- when the buzz was that there was a V movie script out and about, one that would lead to a sequel series.Not sure if that script has become a future movie, but Jason tells us there is some more fun news on the front for V fans, and if ABC doesn't let down its fans yet again, then we could be seeing a remake of the original V series on ABC sometime soon.
Me? I say ... yay! But that's a yay with caution. Just because ABC has ordered the pilot doesn't mean it will get any farther than that. And there are pilots made every day that no one ever gets to see. Furthermore, the support that ABC has shown its quirky shows this year -- and V could be seriously quirky -- has not been stellar (Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money, anyone?).
The possible good news is that ABC sees the future and it is sci fi. They've done well with Lost (OK, that's borderline sci fi but becoming more so with this time travel stuff they've introduced) and even Life on Mars has that little bit of sci fi element to it. But that's it for anything even remotely sci fi on ABC's winter schedule.
Perhaps branching out from the medical and family dramas is ABC's new focus, as they see the success of sci fi / supernatural shows on other networks like FOX (Fringe, Terminator: TSCC ), CW (Smallville, Supernatural) and NBC (Medium). If ABC is looking to create a show with a rabid fanbase, they may just put their support behind the remake of V.
Time will tell, as will the ratings.

I'm on the fence. ABC has a chance to produce a show with serious potential, as long as they treat it like Lost, BSG, or 4400 for instance and not like a Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, or stereotypical 80's-remake-formula-series.

I applaud you for your candor and scolding text. Right here is the defining moment of television. A show that over 83000 people and families loved (as per the pushing daisies petition), that gets pulled because Mr. Nielsen in his rocking chair says the numbers are not large enough. This rating system is not fair to the thousands of people who like smart quality shows. ABC really needs to rethink their decisions because the fans do have the power and the fans want more daisies. We watch it at our leisure on DVR or the internet because we are too busy with our daily lives to be a slaves to any Network TV show. It is a simple as that. Some other network would be foolish not to pick up this show. I hate you ABC and I hate the recycled, mindless, predictable drivel you are feeding us on your station. I mean, seriously; who replaces Pushing daisies with SCRUBS? That is pure lunacy.
I for one am not watching anything on ABC anymore; without Pushing Daisies, why would I?

The sad thing about this remake...they bypassed the original creator and producer Kenneth Johnson, who also wants to produce a sequel project. He already wrote a new V book, continuing their adventures. This treatment is similar to what creator Glen Larson went through on both “Battlestar Galactica” and “Knight Rider.” Projects Larson hoped to do, but given to someone else. Welcome to the new club, Mr. Johnson, of creators who lost their ideas from the studios they helped financially decades ago.

Sadly, ABC Studio execs, screen writers, and those with no real talent pitch shows for said network. Those with talent go elsewhere. Personally "V" will be a mistake of Elephantine Proportions as there will be simpletons and 5th graders writing it. Sorry folks, but Desperate Housewives is utter crud along with 99.9% of Reality TV and whatever else the nets puke out year to year. In a nutshell they supply the demand and cater to the whims of the lowest common denominator; idiots and those with a 1st grade attention span.
Give it 5 years and they will start putting porn on TV. But then I guess Oprah would have something to say about that. Huh?

V has a built in rabid fan base and I think they missed the ball with a remake. They should of pick it up 20 years later and at the very least fans of the series would of checked it out. Instead everyone will be very apprehensive about watching it and say they've seen it before. Stupid IMHO! TIIC think they know what's people want to watch. haha
