Huh. That's the only thing I can say about the recent announcement that 'Til Death will be returning to the FOX lineup next year with a full season order. Well, I could probably add in a 'Hmm' or an 'Eh?' or even a 'Whaaaaa?', but they would all convey the same emotions.
I mean, who would have thought that the network had so much confidence in the show after it placed it on "hiatus" back in October (it still has 15 episodes left in its compliment)? It's not like the network had anything of importance to fill the time slot other than repeats of House or Fringe. Maybe the network felt bad that 'Til Death is, as of this moment, the only live-action, studio audience sitcom remaining on the network. Or, maybe they have some bigger ideas in the works.
There is a chance, for at least the beginning of the season, that FOX may start up another night of comedies which Death will be a part of. It seems logical since Sunday nights are becoming 'Seth (MacFarlane, that is) Sundays' come September. With much of the schedule being taken up by MacFarlane properties it looks like this might just be the case. Whether or not Death would anchor this night of programming has yet to be determine. As Alison wrote in her 2009 predictions post perhaps The Simpsons will leave its Sunday slot once again to shore up another evening.
Or, as I said, the renewal of 'Til Death could just be a sympathy thing. This would be a stretch, of course, since the FOX executives had their sympathy bones removed before they came on board. No matter what reason, congrats to the entire Death team. Here's to many more seasons somewhere on the schedule.

Without the neighbors this show is terrible. They made the show. I gave up on it this season!

I think, Kimberly, you made a typo. Remove the first three words of your first sentence and you got it bang on...
"this show is terrible."

Till Death is the only show capable of making JB Smoove unfunny. If Smoove bypasses a new season of Curb for this show I'm gonna be pissed. If he's on both I'll ignore the fact that FOX was dumb enough to greenlight a show with both Brad Garrett and Eddie Kaye while canceling AD.

'til Death = According to Jim. Will it ever go away? Brad Garret was never that funny on Raymond and he's utterly unfunny on this show. Joely Fisher can be talented given the right material, but she's just one boob joke after another here. From what I understand, the studio making this crap is trying to get enough episodes to sell into syndication. Is anyone really interested in buying this crap? I guess there's always Lifetime where the likes of Still Standing continues to ruin our lives.

I have got to say that I like this show. I didn't think it was as funny this year without as much of the neighbors though.
And don't be a Still Standing hater. That show had it moments.

SONY is trying to milk 'Til Death for the syndication $$ that is very much available right now. The most profitable television format, over the long term, is the half hour sitcom. With fewer of them on the air now, it makes it easier for a distributor to package subpar shows for big bucks.
After season 4, 'Til Death will have 80 episodes in the can, not the magic 100 usually sought for syndication, but enough to sell the show to a basic cable network (TBS comes to mind) and get a decent return on the investment.

That's exactly the reason they're renewing it, and nothing else, because the ratings are garbage. According to Jim on the other hand...didn't that have enough episodes to go into syndication awhile ago? That needs to die. As did Scrubs last year (as shown by the premiere ratings).

Someone must be getting something in the you-know-what at Fox. That's the only reason I can think of this show getting renewed.

Fox will probably show those remaining eps this year after they cancel Dollhouse after the 3rd episode.
