How hard is it to write a Flight of the Conchords song, really? I wrote one just now:"Look at you pretty lady
You make me mess like a baby
Your sexiness doesn't even stop
For the crosswalk or for the cops
It runs right over that crime scene
Screwin' with forensic science and makin' me scream
Oh, oh, oh-oh,
You're gonna bulldoze that 60-story office building that survived four earthquakes and some really strong winds
With your super sexy sexiness, lady."
Yeah, I know, it's bad, but it would probably sound funny over some video of Bret and Jemaine making obscene gyrating motions on the streets of New York City. Just picture it.
I love watching Flight of the Conchords on HBO, but I've never picked up one of the band's records. I never thought the songs would be that funny outside of the show, but I guess most people would disagree with me. The band won a Grammy for its 2007 EP, and their self-titled album has sold more than 237,000 copies in the U.S. Oh, and that one's up for a Grammy too.
The band's next album will be out April 14, but fans can get a taste starting this month. Tracks from the album, and from the upcoming new episodes, will be available for purchase on iTunes the day after each episode airs. The first song, "Angels," hits the Web Jan. 19.
And if you didn't know, you still can watch the season premiere of Flight of the Conchords on FunnyorDie.com. Watch it now. Murray sings and the boys dress up in toothpaste suits. Go, now.
The show returns to HBO for its second, and possibly last, season January 18.

Kudos on the song...Very Conchords. Yeah I was really surprised to hear that the boys were having trouble coming up with songs for another season. It made me wonder just how much like their characters they really are...Don't get me wrong I love these guys...but the lyrics aren't exactly (mmm....fill in lyric virtuoso here) But at least we have one more season to look forward to.
ps...Murray is the bomb! He's the saddest and funniest of the trio.

I actually like their lyrics. I have listened to them for years and have noticed how they have refined their songs as they have been touring and taping the show. I guess the problem is that they have have been performing songs like the Bowie in space songs for nearly a decade, and they used up almost all their play list during the first season. So they had 10 years to perfect the songs for season one and now have to try and do the same thing in only 6 months. I predict season 2 will have less songs per episode because of this.
