
Hey, if this means more coverage for Mad Men, I'm all for it.
Lionsgate, the studio that produces both that AMC show and Showtime's Weeds, has bought both TVGuide.com and The TV Guide Network. This may come as a surprise to readers who thought that they were sold a couple of weeks ago to someone else. Turns out that deal was final yet and Lionsgate came in quickly with another offer and it was OK'd.
John Feltheimer, Chief Exec at Lionsgate, says that they are going to change the way that TVGuide.com does things. It's not just going to be a place where TV fans can get TV listings and some entertainment news and information, it's going to be a "full-service and full-screen entertainment-focused channel." That's good to hear. I can't remember the last time I turned on the TV Guide Network. I'm not interested in the programming they have, and I get my TV listings either online or on my cable box. I never had a real reason to go to the channel. The price, by the way, was $255 million.
Now let's hope they finalize that deal with Matthew Weiner.

Great, but did Mad Men ever work out the contract issues with Matthew Weiner for season 3? Sure would love an update on that. And on Breaking Bad while you're at it...

This is great news. The changes tvguide.com has made recently have made them lose a lot of loyal users. They've got to get things back to the way they were. And also, get Matt Roush back!! His weekly columns were pretty much the only reason left to go to the site. Out of habit I still check the site, but it's a waste of time.

A new and improved TV Guide Channel would be wonderful. Also, an improved TV Guide.com.
And all three sites should return to reporting TV news -- please discontinue trying to report on feature film news. IMHO, of course.

This makes no business sense to me. Lionsgate already has money problems due to their crappy horror flicks and now they sinking money into a magazine few people read, or even see a need for. When I was a kid my family religiously subscribed to TV Guide. When it arrived my mom would go through the entire thing and circle the shows that would be watched. Being an early entertainment buff I always looked forward to the Fall TV preview. Now, who really uses TV Guide as a way to know what's on television? A smaller and smaller readership, that's who, and not one that's going to grow. As for TV Guide.com or their useless network? I still don't see the value. There are too many sites out there doing what TV Guide used to have a monopoly on; and doing it better.
