I'm just full of Disney news (or full of something) this week, aren't I? On Monday I asked the question of what happened to the Playhouse Disney schedule. This time around I'm going to talk about the entire Disney Channel. Not just the cable network, but the website as well. For both are tops in their respective outlets.
Well, tops when it comes to kids programming -- an area of entertainment that continues to grow on a daily basis. For 2008, Disney Channel was top of the heap in a number of areas. Not only was primetime programming number one for viewers ages 6-14, but the premiere of the network's newest musical, Camp Rock (which introduced us to Demi Lovato), became cable's top entertainment broadcast of the year. Cable's top animated debut also went to Disney Channel with the premiere of Phineas and Ferb.
On the Internet, Disneychannel.com was named the top entertainment website for the year. In an average month the website pulled in 10.5 million visitors. That's 'unique' visitors, mind you; we're not talking return daily visits. In August alone the site pulled in nearly 15 million unique visitors. That's pretty huge!
I can't see the network's popularity waning anytime soon. With Hannah Montana in its 3rd season (and a HM movie coming out in April), Wizards of Waverly Place continuing to chug along, and both Demi Lovato and the JoBros (sorry, Jonas Brothers for the uninformed) premiering new scripted series in the next few months, there is no stopping the Disney juggernaut. People may be frowning at the network's excess and its effects on their children, but I'm sure that the network executives have big smiles on their faces right now.

Well in August with the premiere of both movies they showed them both online. I guess that was a great idea and they finally started to put the newest of the shows episodes online after they broadcast. It was great.
In fact I love how they handle it all, if only they did the same for Toon Disney/Jetix. But I guess that is because they are coming with XD.
Regardless Camp Rock and Cheetah Girls: One World were great movies this summer from them and with Jonas Bros. One of the greatest channels ever!

I only have one complaint about the Disney site. They've released a new link with their new Tinkerbell line, which involves what I thought was games and whatnot (like the rest of the site). When I inputted the code and set my 7 yr old up on the site, it appeared to me to just be a child's version of a meet and greet with other kids. As a parent you can choose if u want your child to be able to type out messages for themselves or a specific set of questions/responses. Personally, I would prefer at this time if she'd just play games and not converse with other ppl on the site (mostly cause I'm a paranoid- better safe than sorry mom). But unless I am completely blind (which is highly possible) I saw no games on the site whatsoever. At which time, my daughter said the site was boring. So my question, is that it? Are there no games? Do you have to converse with complete strangers who may or may not be an actual child? This site comes off just being creepy if that is indeed "it".
