(S02E14) "Whatever you want to do to yourself, please don't do that to me." - BlairWow! Talk about yet another fantastic installment of Gossip Girl. My last review started with the word "wow" and I must use it again this week, don't you agree? Not only did we once again get an amazing performance from Ed Westwick (that guy should at least be nominated for an Emmy), but we also got a load of great quotes from Blair, a badass
Thank the casting gods for hiring Ed Westwick to play Chuck Bass. Can you imagine how the show would have turned out to be if someone else, let's say Penn Badgley or Chace Crawford, would have been given the part? I can't dare imagine how awful the character would have turned out to be. Westwick is amazing as Chuck Basswhole -- that's my new nickname for him. He truly makes us believe in the character and forget that it's all just an act. Not only that, but he also makes us care about the evil character that is Chuck! We also need to cherish the writers for giving us such deliciously twisted scenes featuring Chuck!
When Blair took a few seconds to cry, I wanted to cry with her. Chuck was uncontrollably spiraling down to a point that he almost plunged to his death later on. It must be awful to see someone you love be on a such destructive path and not be able to help him recover. Luckily, Blair was able to say the right words at the right time and bring Chuck back on the right path. Even if he embraced Blair in the end, I'm pretty sure the road to full recovery will not be without a few bumps. Anyway, do we want Chuck to truly be cured? That wouldn't be as entertaining, eh?
I must admit, I never saw coming the fact that Nelly played Jenny! Talk about a last minute twist. I was really buying the fact that she wanted out of the group because they always made her do the dirty and disgusting stuff. One thing I enjoyed about this storyline is that we got old Jenny back! Even if she claims she is not Liltte J anymore, Jenny was at least back to her normal self, aka not the bratty and spoiled girl she was during that I want to be emancipated and start my own line phase.
As a fan of the Humphreys, I didn't enjoy seeing Dan and Rufus at odds. I always enjoyed them as a family who shared everything so I would have preferred him being upfront with his kids. Then again, we wouldn't have been treated to the scene where a drunk Chuck tells Dan about him not being the eldest Humphrey. As a Lily and Rufus shipper, I'm happy that they are trying to find their son. Some internet rumors said that their kid would turn out to be Georgina, looks like rumors aren't always right, eh? Just take a minute to imagine if it would have turned out to be true? Oh the drama! Georgina and Serena sisters?!? One thing I hope though is that the show doesn't drag the search for the long lost son for too long as we've been there and done that with many other series.
As for Serena and Dan getting back together, I truly hope it's only temporarily. I've said it before and will say it again, those two don't belong together, at least not right now.
I leave you this week with a few of the episode's best quotes. Sadly, I wasn't able to write down all the gems we were given, so if you remember a quote I missed, please share it in comments below:
- "Where in the world is Chuck Bass?" - Gossip Girl
- "Being a father is who I am, don't take that away." - Rufus to Lily
- "I'm not Little J anymore!" - Jenny
- "It's temporary insanity!" - Blair to the principal about Chuck's behavior
- "The only way Nelly is leaving is in a body bag." - Penelope
- "It's time to let go of your fantasies." - Chuck to Blair
- "I'm not abandoning Chuck; I'm just saving myself." - Blair
- "You are not the first born Humphrey." - Chuck to Dan

An Emmy for Chuck Bass? Are you kidding? Ed Westwick's OTTness in the last 2 episodes is putting David Caruso to shame.

I kmow. OMFG I thought the review was sarcastic until I finished as was shocked to see that it was serious. This is a silly silly silly show that shouldnt win anything except an award for most over the top silly story lines and poor poor acting. I watch it for a release not for real drama. Ya'll scare me in here...

My favorite part had to be when Penelope, Hazel and Isabella (I finally learned their names!) figured Jenny was trying to win Queen Bee status and said "OK what are we doing about the [whatever school] party tomorrow night?" - these girls are such tools to flip that quickly

I could see Penn playing Chuck. He's a decent actor for teen show standards. Ed too but he's not the second coming. Bad boys are a dime a dozen on tv but they get praised as something special lol.

Yeah I think I might actually like Penn if he just wasn't so dragged down by his douchey character.
Writers... DO SOMETHING WITH DAN. Or kill him off.

Hilars! I was so content with last night's episode, I didn't even notice the lack of Nate and Vanessa time. They're worthless!
As for incestgate 2009, I think everyone needs to get over it. Why can't Lily and Rufus be together? Cuz of pregnant teen shizz from 20 years ago? You don't see Michael Cera freaking out on Juno all up in that piece.
And as for Dan and Serena - barely related! To quote my own self (I blogged: http://squareeyes.blinkx.com/?p=221), Dan needs to watch Cruel Intentions and get the eff over it.

and the best thing about the jenny plotline? screentime for Nelly Yuki! love her! she's such a badass for playing jenny lmao. but i didn't like how the writers made her sway back to penelope. seriously the 'new old jenny humphrey' except that i actually like Nelly.
