It looks like Sherwood Schwartz is having his other major television brainchild made into a movie (because The Brady Bunch and its sequels weren't enough). Even more interesting, his Gilligan of choice is Michael Cera, the same guy holding up the Arrested Development movie.Would this movie work in this day and age? Maybe. It's a very silly premise and could work as a humorous take on Lost (or perhaps more accurately Lost is a serious take on Gilligan's Island). Of course, the planning is in the early stages so a myriad of things could happen to frick this entire idea up completely.
I can see Hollywood trying to make the cast multi-ethnic to give it a more modern sensibility. Will it have an African-American Jonas Grumby (that's the Skipper for all you lacking in Gilligan's Island trivia knowledge)? An Asian Mary Ann? A gay Professor (I only say this given his historic lack of pursuit of Mary Ann or Ginger)? The mind boggles. What do you think?

Hah. You know what? I'm ok with it. Most of these tv movie adaptations are weak, but why not? The show was cancelled too soon, and had some real gems in it.
I say hand it over to Will Ferrel's pack. They already have Cera in tow, and have a lot to apologize for with Bewitched.

Some actors (meant as inclusive of both M/F) simply OWN their roles!!!!
I was *so* tempted to go see the cinematic version of "Get Smart"......but upon seeing a clip, the actor, (brain on break without me... I can't recall his name)....he seemed to be as appropriate as anyone *I* could think of.....but it finally came to: NO ONE replaces or re-plays Don Adams' role!!
So....I treated myself to the DVD set of the original show. Got my "nostalgia fix" and will enjoy it for years to come!
hmm, maybe the SAG should find a way for actors to reserve ALL RIGHTS to beloved characters using the Berne convention and intellectual property laws!!!???!!

10 years ago it would have been Tom Green as Gilligan.
Please don't make this movie - just take the 80 million dollars and donate it to charity. Tweezers and bikini wax kits for 3rd world countries would be a far better way to spend the money.

Or get all unknowns for the young characters...Gilligan, Mary Ann, and Ginger. Mayby Bob Denver and Dawn Wells to play the Howells. Could Drew Carrey do the skipper... can't think of a good professor right now.
