J.D.'s brother returning to Scrubs

One of the greatest guest stars in Scrubs, nay, in television history will make his triumphant return soon.

Tom Cavangagh told TV Guide he will make another guest appearance on Scrubs as J.D.'s older brother Dan before the final season's hourglass runs out of mortality sand.

Cavanagh confirmed the news by saying the "chances are 100 percent" that he'll get to go back on the show this season. Cavanagh will also star in the TNT show Trust Me with Will & Grace star Eric McCormick and Scrubs regular Sarah Chalke.

Cavanagh's appearances on the show were always a welcome presence because he made the perfect antagonist for J.D. Of course, that's other than Dr. Cox, played by John C. McGinley, who seems to have an almost unnatural fetish for torturing younger men. That's the start of a metaphor that I don't think I want to finish now.

Last time we saw Dan, he had gotten his life together, thanks to his little brother. But yet another brotherly fight this time forced Dan to state the obvious to J.D.: that he needs to grow up and become a man. It's something Dr. Cox has been saying since episode one, but with a lot less girl name calling and allusions to murdering Hugh Jackman.

Cavanagh is one of the most underrated actors on television today. Ed was one of those underappreciated shows that didn't deserve an early death sentences and J.D.'s mindless optimistic loser brother made a perfect fit for Cavanagh. It will be interesting to see how things turn out in this final episode since Dan told J.D. that HE is the one who needs to grow up and be a man. Didn't being called Betty for seven years not drive that message home already?
