I used to get a lot of flak from my friends simply for being a dude who watched Gilmore Girls. The jabs about my ever-fading manliness would stop whenever I forced one of these Gilmore bashers to actually sit and watch the show. If they weren't drawn in by the witty dialogue, its amazingly sap-free wholesomeness, or its addictive plot lines, they were always impressed with star Lauren Graham's performance as Lorelai Gilmore. If we lived in a perfect world, Graham would have a bookshelf full of awards for her seven-year run as Lorelai. When the show ended in 2007, Graham headed to the movies, usually landing small roles that failed to fully display her talent. Now, she's returning to TV.
Graham will star in and produce an untitled half-hour comedy for ABC. Produced by Will and Grace writer Alex Herschlag, the show will cast Graham as a self-help guru who struggles to follow her own advice after her boyfriend dumps her. Yeah, I know, it doesn't really sound like a winner, but neither did the Gilmore Girls pitch ("A mother and daughter are best friends who live in a quirky small town and drink a lot of coffee.") and that turned out great.
ABC has given a production commitment to the comedy, which means it might end up on the network's 2009 schedule. I'm looking forward to watching Graham take the lead on this one. Even if the show's awful, she'll still be a bright spot on my TV.

Count me in as a Gilmore Girls fan! I'm still amazed that Lauren Graham was never nominated for an Emmy. I'm really happy she'll be back on my TV!

This is awesome. I've been waiting for her to come back to TV.
Oh, and it was totally a guy friend of mine who got me started watching Gilmore Girls in the first place.

This sounds interesting...but I really wish she'd do another light drama...Does anyone know of a real life Stars Hollow or a runner up? All my town has to offer is contraband and foghorn leghorn piñatas...

Count me in as I definite watcher. I adore Lauren
(even in nonsense like "Because I Said So"). I really hope ABC gives this a good chance. BTW, didn't LG have a deal with NBC to develop a TV project? Perhaps because her name isn't Jay she couldn't get a go-ahead from the Peacock people!

if i remember correctly, her deal with NBC fell through when the writers strike happened... and I do believe the show'll do fine on ABC, it's their kind of chick show.

Yeah... awards. Right.
Graham basically plays this one character she can play over and over again. It's pretty lovable and she was perfectly typecast for Gilmore Girls.
But she can't do anything else, and her character doesn't work when used in a comedy. GG was so funny because it was a funny drama. Pure comedy she can't do, so I agree: this show will last one season at most.

I loved her in gilmore girls. And I am glad to see her come back to tv. My only concern is with the short description given it sounds like Men in trees, only she was a relationship guru, but same concept, and we all know how well that did. ( I liked the show) I guess we will have to wait and see.

Isn't Lauren Graham on the cast of the new Guys and Dolls on Broadway? It just starts sometime in February, I think, so I'm not sure it leaves time to finish it and go work on a TV series that will still air on 2009... No?
Is she cancelling the Guys and Dolls gig?
