It's almost been a year since we last gave you news about the straight-to-DVD Dead Like Me movie. Back then, it was rumored that the movie would be released during the summer of 2008, more precisely around Comic-Con time. Well, looking at all the snow outside my condo and at my DVD collection, it's clear that summer has gone by and that the rumor turned out to be false. After months and months of waiting for the release and trying to find every tidbits of info about the movie (aka spoilers and trailer), our wait is almost over. In an official press release, MGM and FOX not only announce when the movie will finally be released but also that they are putting a collector's edition of the series on the market!
The movie, titled Life After Death, will be released on DVD on February 17, 2009. The action takes place two years after the series finale and, as we reported in various posts in 2007, the repears report to a new boss portrayed by Lost's Henry Ian Cusick and Daisy is now played by Sarah Wynter (remember that both Mandy Patinkin and Laura Harris were not available at shooting time because of their engagement to TV series). The new boss has a secret agenda that creates disorder amongst the reapers while George breaks one of the most important rules when being a reaper: Do not reveal yourself to your Earthly family. The DVD features two extras: a commentary and a featurette about resurecting the series in movie format.
The Complete Collection: Soul Collectors' Edition 9-Disc Set will be released on the same day. This DVD set includes all the episodes as well as the movie, commentaries, deleted scenes, featurettes and more.
For more details about the straight-to-DVD movie DVD and the collectors' DVD-set, such as what each disc will contain, read the press release sent out earlier this week. You can also get more information on the Life After Death's official website.
To help us wait until mid-February, I've included a new trailer in which Ellen Muth, as George, tells us what she and her friends have been up to.

I really hope it comes back. With Bryan Fuller now without a job (or at least only part-time if he goes back to Heroes) maybe they will give him the showrunner position for this. :D

Sarah Wynter and Laura Harris played sisters on the second season of 24. How cool is that?!

This is good news. This imaginative, well-written, and well-acted series was ended far too soon in the first place. It was a show that entertained and actually made you reach for some soul-searching answers in the scheme of things.

Loved this show. Can't wait for the movie... but George wouldn't reap a guy with an aneurysm. She only does accidents. They got Lisa Simpson to reap sick people.

What happened to Ellen's lips? OMG it looks like she got stung by something, or she ate something she's allergic to.
Either way, it looks stupid.
But seriously. With two of the originals not there, I have serious doubts about this. Mandy was the driving force. I hope it works out, but I think it's going to be weak.

Wow, not only does this look horrible, but this contrivance about Ellen reaping her interviewer (who is a crappy actor, btw) is kind of embarrassing. Rube's replacement alone seems capable of taking what was an edgy, interesting show and reducing it to fantasy dreck.
And Daisy's replacement doesn't seem to have any resemblance to Daisy at all -- and I'm talking personality and character.
This is a mistake -- the one thing we should all say to this once great series is Rest In Peace.

Let's give it a chance Tom. I do agree that Rube was a stand-out character.
