If you are like me and use a RSS reader to keep tabs of the TV news of the day, you were probably overwhelmed by the number of articles claiming that T.R. Knight asked to leave ABC's Grey's Anatomy. In order to make my RSS reader a tad more crowded with this news, I decided to join in on the fun and blog about it!The reason for Knight's request? He is unhappy with his storylines. Now where have we heard this reason before?
You have to admit that the actor has a point since he hasn't been doing much on the series so far this season and from the look of spoilers, it seems that no huge storylines are coming his way. Actually, he has been so underused since the season premiere that writing him off would not hurt the series at all. And you know what? I don't care if he stays or if he goes.
Depending on where you read the news, some websites claim that the actor actually walked off the show while others say that he has not and even attended the latest table read. No matter if he walked off or not and why he wants off, the end will be the same: the actor will either leave the show or not.
According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, Shonda Rhimes and ABC are inclined to honoring T.R. Knight's request. Why wouldn't they? Not only do they have to make room for the new comers (Kevin McKidd and Melissa George just to name two), but why keep yet another actor who is unhappy with his storylines?
I loved the pre-Gizzie George so I would care a tiny bit if he left the show but considering that we will never get back that character on Grey's Anatomy since he is surrounded by Izzie and Meredith, I would prefer see George transfer to another hospital than mope around all day at Seattle Grace. The only way I see George improving and getting back his groove is with a total change in surroundings. How about California? I hear that there is a new practice opening in the same building as Oceaniside Wellness Center (aka the doctor's practice in Private Practice). And what a better way to have George move there than during February Sweeps when a huge crossover between GA and PP is set to occur?
Even if I don't care much anymore about what will happen to T.R. Knight's character, I must admit that the news made Ausiello give us another clue as to which TV star is about to get axed and doesn't know about it. Many of you thought it was T.R. Knight, especially in light of a post written by Kristin Dos Santos. Turns out that Ausiello was not referring to Knight when he told us that someone was about to get axed.
What do you think of T.R. Knight potentially leaving Grey's Anatomy? Do you think it will be good for the show or hurt it? Should Shonda Rhimes offer Knight to join the Private Practice cast?

I would be very saddened if T.R. left the cast. I really believe in many ways that George is the heart of that group. While I don't love every story line, his character has always been one of my favorites.

For the love of god, please let him leave. Please! And take Izzie and dead Denny along with him.
This season of Grey's is horrific so far. Rhimes needs to be sacked if things don't improve. Besides Dancing with the Has-beens, Grey's is only one of the few shows that ABC has left that could still be considered a hit.

Yeah, as much as I really enjoyed George as a character early on, I don't think I'd miss him now.
However, I still want to know who the frak Ausiello is talking about.

See: Hitchcock, Alfred
Actors are hired help. They really need to get over themselves...and so does their adoring public.

i think most people are underestimating TRs contribution to the show. If george were to leave seattle grey, it would definitely have a negative impact on the show that is already in trouble with very weak story lines.
I think the writers and producers have not handled the situation properly. when you create a show that is so character driven, you have to take care of the characters.
if the writing is weak, story lines preposterous and uneven amongst the cast members, then there is bound to be tension and overall unhappiness.
they have to remember that the show is about the characters primarily, this isnt a procedural show like CSI, where the characters are secondary to the plot.
I think ausiello is talking about patrick dempsey. now if they lose dempsey, heigl and TR, then it's all over.

Isn't it time ABC ousts Rhimes and brings in a new showrunner?

I use to love George, but not so much anymore. He was adorable in season one. Grey's has way too many characters, who else has a storyline besides Meredith and Izzie these days? I honestly thought they'd ship Mark and Callie off to Oceanside with Addison back when the spin-off was developing. Instead they are just adding more and more characters.

I wouldn't miss him. George stopped being an interesting character when Shonda Rhimes created the Gizzie fiasco. I mean, what does the character actually bring to the series anymore? That's not a dig at the actor. T. R. Knight can be quite good when he has the material. Shonda Rhimes is the main reason for the character's failure. If she is as immature as the characters she creates I feel sorry for anyone who knows her.

I am so sick of hearing about drama on the set of Grey's Anatomy. I used to be a loyal fan, I bought the show on DVD, I watched every week, and I got really into the characters and couples. That was back in the good old days. That was before all the actors got big heads and thought that the show was a waste of their time. Um HELLO! It was this show that sky rocketed most of the cast's careers. It is just pathetic to me that there seems to be more controversy on set then on screen these days. I don't know if all these articles are right, making Shonda Rhimes look like the villan by not giving her precious cast "Emmy worthy material", but I think the cast should be grateful that they are on a hit show. It's stupid when the cast instead of talking to the producers or writers about their issues, they make a public spectacle of it. We are seeing them in interviews or reading articles about them angry with the desicions or storylines that the writers and producers have made. Why not grow up and deal with it like an adult?

For T.R. Knight I have two names for him to remember: McLean Stevenson and David Caruso. Now before you youngsters say, "What are you talking about David Caruso is on 'CSI: Miami.'" Yes that is true, but before landing there he was on "NYPD Blue" for one season before he thought he was too big for that show.

He should get a new series real quick on premium cable as a lot of shows are being cut for budgets after the writers strike messed with the rating. At the same time he has a following already and an asking price plus HBO/SHO are developing several exciting new shows and I would bet he could bring a talent and viewers.
