The Martian Manhunter is one of my favorite DC Comics superheroes. He can shape-shift, read people's minds, and he looks like a cross between Shaft and The Jolly Green Giant. What's not to like? I even dig the Phil Morris version from Smallville. But, I'm not too thrilled about the idea of a Martian-centric Smallville spinoff series.Smallville executive producer Darren Swimmer suggested to TV Guide (in its upcoming Dec. 8 issue) that a spinoff starring Morris as the Manhunter, aka John Jones, might be a good idea if Smallville doesn't return for a ninth season on The CW. He immediately followed up by cracking "A Martian Manhunter Variety Hour might be fun!," so I don't think he's too serious about it actually happening.
I still wouldn't put it past the network and the Smallville creative team to champion the idea, though. These are the people who wanted to give us The Graysons, a prequel drama about Batman's greatest weakness, Robin.
Currently on Smallville, Morris' Martian is a plain clothes police detective for the Metropolis PD. If the character ever did get his own series, I doubt it would be a full-blown sci-fi/superhero show. We'd probably get a by-the-numbers super-cop procedural, something like a watered-down version of Medium or The Mentalist. No thanks.
The best and most obvious Smallville spinoff idea would be a Green Arrow series starring Justin Hartley (as long as they re-cast Black Canary. Alaina Huffman scares the hell out of me).
Why all this talk of spinoffs? Swimmer also said that "actor availability" might nix plans for a ninth season of Smallville. Translation: Star Tom Welling probably wants to move on, or is holding out for more cash. If Welling leaves, the show should go with him. You can't shouldn't have Smallville without Clark Kent, but you can have a spinoff, and I can almost guarantee that the producers are ready to pitch new ideas to the network. (They've tried once before and failed with Aquaman.)
So, if Smallville is done, I officially cast my vote for a Green Arrow show. Anyone else have a Smallville spinoff idea, or should the show's universe come to an end with the series?

First off Alaina Huffman is hot when she has the wig on when in her alter ego role. I dont think any spin off shows would work. Superman and Batman are DC so if its not a show about them it wouldnt work and no the Graysons isnt really batman. For some reason Phil Morris in smallville makes me think he would be part of the Green Lantern crew, but im not sure why?

This probably won't happen. The CW targets young female viewers, and Morris is an older male. (Or, maybe they would recast the Manhunter with a young twinky dude?)
Hell, the CW might not even be around next Fall season.

First off, lol to "prequel drama about Batman's greatest weakness, Robin." Secondly, I'd probably watch it as I like the actor. I wouldn't mind an old-school detective series, especially if Alison Mack is involved (since she already signed for season 9). If they kept it to 8-10 eps, I think it'd be good. My biggest fear is another Birds of Prey.

Wow. This is almost as bad an idea as the one with a show about the Graysons. Did they completely forget about the stillborn Aquaman pilot?
If it's not a Justice League spin-off, then don't do it at all.

I've said it time and time again in my past comments on Smallville reviews...there is a spin-off series already built in to the current Smallville universe: The Justice League.
Granted this is not the Justice League that we think of when we see what's done in the comics, but it's already been established that Smallville goes off the beaten path when it comes to origins and pasts of the characters.
Anytime Smallville's Justice League is featured on an episode, ratings go up. It's a no-brainer, and I find it very hard to believe producers are missing this.
They can't possibly claim a potential "conflict" because some of the characters used in the Smallville Justice League have movies on the back burner to debut. Cyborg, Aguaman, Flash, Black Canary and Green Arrow are viable characters they can keep, plus they can add on Vixen or Gypsy. They can still keep the Smallville formula of featuring various DC stars in new incarnations, and they can use the plot of the JL touring the world, taking down baddies.
Seriously, a no-brainer here, but all I've heard is ill-conceived and guaranteed to fail sin-off proposals such as The Graysons.
Are producers this blind?
:-)

I have said for over a year, that there should be a series with Green Arrow, Flash, AC and Cyborg. The MM character? No. He's dull. Clark could pop in once in awhile, and even a young Batman. Ok, Black Canary occasionally. Chloe could be there as Watchtower. Don't these guys read fan fiction???

One of the things I liked best about Batman Begins and the Dark Knight Cartoon movie was seeing how young Bruce Wayne became Batman. Not the focus on why, but learning where, what, and with whom he studied to become the greatest detective.
I know its off limits (mostly because Christopher Nolan would have a hissy fit), but I'd make a tie-in to Smallville, by doing a little revisionist work and have John Jones give young Master Wayne a lesson or two on how to be a real detective instead of just a vigilante punk. The punchline (likely to appear at the end of the 2 episode-arc, of course, being John Jones explaining to Bruce that he learned his skills the way all good detectives do--by studying people (and by watching detective movies, as John did when he first came to Earth.)
Or maybe they've already done with this with Clark. I dunno'. I stopped watching Smallville after Season 3.

Kara. When she first appeared I thought the only reason she was being introduced was to start a spin-off series. She'll be perfect.

Wasn't Phil Morris supposed to get a Seinfeld spinoff after that show ended? That didnt happen so I doubt this would.

I would like to see a spin off of Jimmy. Not so much because of the character, but because Aaron Ashmore looks just like my dreamy husband....ooh...la...la

One of the crystals is the diary of Jor-el. Clark would use it to relive the last five years of Krypton as if were Jor-el. meet and marry Lara. fight Zod and the Science councel.
Or they could do a young JLA (without Aquaman)

A Green Arrow spin-off is what the CW needs to fill Thursday's vacancy if Smallville ends this spring. I have no idea what they would advertise with Supernatural, it's always been a super kind of night for the CW. 8-9 deals with superheroes while 9-10 deals with superfreaky sh*t.
I have so much respect for Justin Hartley's portrayal of the Green Arrow. He keeps saving the show, and kept giving Clark well deserved kicks in the ass. I don't think that the CW should keep a Justice League series, I think the series should just focus on Green Arrow & Black Canary. The leaguers would be recurring guest stars, but having a show with multiple characters (who would all need dilemmas and character development to keep them interesting) is destined to get overly complicated and fail *cough*heroes*cough* Justin Hartley seems to enjoy playing Green Arrow and I hope that he gets the chance to continue. The CW has kept him on a talent contract and kept throwing him stupid pilots before making him a regular on Smallville. Just give Justin the show he'd kick ass with: Green Arrow. Alaina seems to enjoy Black Canary, and has a lot to say about the character (even though she's only dressed up as her for two episodes) but I like her a lot. I really hope they do without the makeup mask and give her something cool to wear like what Ollie AC Bart and Victor have. If Tom wants to pop in every now and then.. then awesome, if not, I don't think they should just forget him. They could cover up his absense by going on about how they have to work overtime because he's in the FoS getting his education from Jor-El. Phil Morris could also guest star every now and then, but they really need to give the guy some character. It just seems the guy pops in out of nowhere whenever Clark gets himself into a rut. Let's hear more about Mars and his other purposes in life besides cleaning up after Clark.
Possible villains for the series could be the Injustice League that Tess/Lex are creating. Random DC villains (please no freak/theif-of-the-week) The JL could grow as more characters like Vixen, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Huntress, etc are introduced and are integrated.
It's a working formula and I'm pretty sure the idea has crossed their minds. Maybe they are already negotiating this deal and aren't going public with it. It all depends on Tom Welling. If he leaves, I can accept it as long as Oliver continues. If he wants to return.. I can wait a year for the JL.
I'm looking forward to more JL episodes toward the end of the season

Smallville should end. It's gone on for far too long in my opinion, and it should just be over. No spin-offs, please. I just want the pain to end.

I do not want to watch that old goat, 40 year old with fake boobs Lois. It is time to end Smallville while it still can manage a little dignity. all the good stars are gone, all that is left are hamburger faced, homely Lois trying to act with her fake boobs.

I think they should make a Justice League TV show. Smallville to Justice League. Clark is now ready for superman. They should have the same people from smallville. I'm not really sure if this is a good idea and I'm not the only one who's been thinking about this.

I know what I'd like to see happen with Smallville. I'd like to see it end this season. And here's how I want it to end; Clark is an intrepid reporter for a Great Metropolitan Newspaper. Chloe goes to Gotham and is forgotten. Lana stays in Smallville. Lex resurfaces more evil and slimy than ever. Lois is still dealing with her feelings of love for Clark. The closing scene shows a man putting on red boots, fastening a golden belt and swirling a red cape around his neck. We see Tom Wellings blue eyes, the camera shot widens to show him wearing the Uniform. The familiar strains of Superman start and he takes off from the Fortress and flies over the earth towards the sun. Superspeed, sonic boom. Superman Lives coming to theatres Christmas 2010!!
