TV Land plots a Harry Hamlin & Lisa Rinna reality show

Harry and LisaThere are two things that I find disturbing about the news that there's a reality show in the works for married actors Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna for TV Land. Number one, do we really need another show biz couple exposing their personal lives for the cameras? Number two, why is TV Land getting away from celebrating TV history by broadcasting great old shows to do banal entertainment like this kind of unscripted drivel?

Are audiences really clamoring for more of this stuff? I know I'm not, and I don't know anyone else who is! Seriously, this is not reality TV. There's nothing real about it except that they're using their real names. (Yes, those are their real names!)

Perhaps it's unfair of me to label something that's not even been filmed yet as drivel, but my expectations have been diminished greatly when it comes to celebrity reality. As much as I like Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna as actors – I was a fan of L.A. Law and remember distinctly when Lisa first started on Days of Our Lives -- I can't say I'm jonesing to see them behind closed doors.

There really needs to be a moratorium on celebrity reality shows. We're drowning in them, and I can think of only one that would qualify as entertainment and that's Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.

TV Land is looking to get Harry and Lisa up and running, it could be on the air in 2009. I don't know, but I'm more interested in seeing Harry on CBS's midseason mystery-drama Harper's Island than this thing.
