The Office to roast the boss after the Super Bowl

Finally after seasons of torment, humiliation and just plain squirmishness, the members of The Office will have their revenge on the man they call their boss. Hot, stinky, nasty revenge. Who says it's best served cold? People who are too lazy to pre-heat, that's who.

NBC confirmed that The Office's Michael Scott will get the roast he deserves in a special hour-long episode following the Super Bowl, according to TVWeek.

But will this be the opportunity that the members of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin have been waiting for ever since they agreed to start working there, or will Michael's knee-jerk need to be anything but the butt of a joke ruin their chances?

It's an episode that I'm more giddy about than an 80's schoolgirl with REO Speedwagon tickets, and yet also dreading slightly more than having to watch REO Speedwagon in my current human form.

It's been a long time coming that the members of The Office get a chance to put the boss in his proverbial place. He's rude, boorish, has no sense of appropriateness or even right or wrong. Michael Scott would make a great Joker for Chris Nolan's next Batman feature.

At the same time, this raises my "Jump the Shark" alarm for The Office to code yellow. Part of the fun of the show is the ways the office mates find ways to combat people like Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute without completely losing their cool. They always find ways to have a sense of humor about the people they deal with. Now there is a risk that one or more of them don't roast Michael in the traditional sense and simply just lose their temper while the flames are fanned, a moment that could be very funny because Michael wouldn't know a joke from a jab to the eye. But such a move could start to chip away at the deep seeded anger that's been growing inside them like a Chia Pet of rage.

Still, it will be fun to watch the rage roll and see how producer Greg Daniels and company pull it off, whether either happens or not.
