(S03E11) Well, that was a whole lot of hullabaloo about nothing. I know, I know can't spoil anything before the jump. Can I say that I'm really enjoying Hiro these last couple of episodes? Maybe all he needed was to be a 10-year old boy. In fact, I wasn't too terribly annoyed by anyone in this episode ... except for Mohinder. Come on, dude. Let it go. Do you really think she's still going to be interested after everything that went down?
You just know that Seth Green and Breckin Meyer were just geeking out about getting a role on this show. In fact, we need more Heroes sketches on Robot Chicken. Now there's no excuses. As for the rest, the eclipse came and went and all those huge promises about what a big freaking deal this would turn out to be were for naught. Their powers disappeared when the eclipse came. What happened when it left?
Their powers came back. In fact, everything went right back to the way it was, and it was pretty damned obvious how it was going to play out. Of course Claire would die just before the eclipse ended. Of course, HRG would "kill" Sylar just before the eclipse ended. That way when it was over and their powers came back no one will have died.
In fact, the only casualties of the whole eclipse situation were The Haitian II: The God Complex and Elle. And both of those were just too obvious. If only Sylar had Matt's ability, he could have read Elle's mind and found out if HRG was lying. Not sure why he did his head slice thing, though. He already has her abilities and knows how to get them without killing. Just has to put his signature move on. He's like the Hulkster in that. Just think of it as his leg drop.
I guess all of this was so that we could set up Gabriel/Sylar to become the ultimate villain again, because he's just so good at being bad. But now we can sympathize with him a little bit ... I guess. Now that HRG has stirred up his mommy and daddy issues even more, he's going to have to become another psychopathic monster to cope. Maybe he can be Matt Parkman's brother next. "Daddy locked me in a mind room. That's why I kill." Get over it, man. We've all been through some crap in our lives.
- We came so close to getting rid of Claire Bennett, but not so fast! She'll never die, and now Papa Petrelli wants her.
- Kudos to Hiro for the most entertaining moment of the night when he popped into the Bennett household, grabbed Sylar and said "Bad man" in Japanese, wisking him away to some beach somewhere so he could kill Elle and free Kristen Bell to do whatever she has next on her plate.
- I like the Matt and Daphne love connection as much as the next guy, but that story was really going nowhere. And that moment when her dad came out on the porch and hugged her was about the most awkward thing I've seen. He looked like he was either going to fall on her or pounce on her when he came out and then they embraced like to bears about to fight. Very odd.
- This show keeps killing off its hot chicks, except for Hayden Panattiere and Ali Larter. You need to cast some damn hotties and keep them around. Hayden and Ali's characters don't do it for me anymore. I liked Elle. Okay, Maya's still around (nice cameo tonight), but she's useless as a character, too. Having that comic book problem of coming up with good strong female characters that aren't just sex kittens?
- Only two chapters left in this volume. Will they really come through on any of their promises of changing everything, or will it be another disappointing ending? You know, that's a lot like comics too. Great setups and disappointment in the end. Maybe that's what they're going for. Good job, then!

Elle isn't dead. Sylar just wanted to see her topless.

All I read is how sucktacular Heroes has become and no one has any idea why or how to make it better.
Until one of those closet Einsteins cough up the solution, I'll go out on a limb and say this was one of the best eps this year and favorably compares to Season 1. That's right. I said it.
Hiro and the "bad man" scene rocked.
The Elle/Sylar thing was heartbreaking.
The Claire/HRG bits were in character and nice.
Even cleared up some loose ends with the "Isaac's last scrapbook" item.
Liked it. Lots.

I agree 100%!! there hasn't been an episode this good since season 1!!
It was entertaining, it wasn't stupid, it reset a lot of stupid ideas, and gave some heart back to the good guys.
I'm literally on the brink of not watching it anymore, but this episode gave it some more chances!

This whole two part eclipse episode was such a waste of time! I was hoping that it would somehow change the dynamic of the story but it resulted in squat! At the very least, I was hoping that the heroes would get their powers back but that the powers would be altered in some way. I can't see how the eclipse was a game changer in any way except to change Nathan back into the guy with the worst instincts on the planet!

I kept hoping that the Eclipse would activate Peter's powers. But no, he'll go back to the States...in a plane. Very superhero like.

I was thinking the same thing, but I believe its all a setup. I think Peter doesn't realize he has his powers back and will discover it at a crucial time. If I'm right then I guess that means that Maya also has her powers back which might be why they reintroduced her this week..
Jason, I think Elle was encouraging Syler to be independent, not evil. But I think the whole plot thread was tainted by inconsistent writing, as you suggested.

It's possible it did reactivate his innate power of absorption that he had at the beginning, but lost all the powers he absorbed along the way.
I'm guessing if he tried to fly last night after Nathan, he could have if he knew his powers were back.

Sylar's character seems so forced now. They should have never changed him... never created a deviation. His "trying to do good" never settled well for me. And that makes his back to evil switch even more unbelievable. His character is too bad ass to have ever fallen prey to the mother abandonment bs.
And I'm confused... didn't Elle encourage Sylar to be evil again, only to recount on the beach and tell him he's changed? It feels like the writers aren't writing in the same room, like they don't share notes. The premise is still cool, it just needs a huge overhaul in the writing department. And a balance of guys and girls would be nice, too. The only tough female character is a teenager who suffers from overprotective parents and despite her invulnerability almost died from a bullet wound infection. C'mon!

It does feel like that the writing staff isn't on the same proverbial page. It's like each writer simply undoes what the last writer established, if they don't like it.

My question is "is Elle really dead"? How do we know. All we saw was Sylar cutting her head. Didn't the last time that happen...wasn't there a huge explosion?

I was thinking that Sylar was cutting open Elle's head to find out the truth about his parents, since now that is in question.

He cuts them open to see how their brain is wired, but it doesn't give him telepathy. I'm pretty sure he cut her open just to kill her in the way only he can do.

I hate NBC. The show ran over on my DVR, and the last thing I saw was Hiro and Claire at the window, and Hiro shushing her.
But did Sylar really kill Elle? No body...no death. ESPECIALLY on this show.

my dvr did the same thing, but my dad was taping Worst Enemy. so I started the beginning of that. All you missed was a line of dialogue between Hiro and Claire, nothing big, and the preview for next week.l

That was the end of the episode, unless you are upset about missing the preview for next week.

Same for me...like 6 weeks in a row. Can't they just make that last commerical break shorter and end the freaking show on time for once? It's not like Heroes is an hour long, it's 41 minutes, are you telling me that they can't find 1 minute in their 19 minutes of commercials to move around? I'm not going to set the DVR for the 10pm show, I don't have the open recording slot, so JUST END THE SHOW ON TIME!
I thought the episode was awesome, especially everything with Hiro. Loved how the urban legend about Isaac came out, that's awesome. People grew to hate the show last season (which I still enjoyed) and now only look at it like a cynic, looking for flaws in everything. Since this is the only show like this on TV, just go with it and enjoy.

Just pad your DVR to give it an extra couple of minutes then you don't have to worry about it.
And they do it that way believing that you won't change the channel if the show ends and the next one begins right away.

Frankly, I'm glad Elle is gone, because her character was just all over the place. Good, bad, likable, unlikable. Actually, all the characters are kinda like that now.

How do we know that Noah was lying? It could make an interesting dynamic.
I just wish they'd kill off Mohinder and Nathan. The only thing Mohinder's good for is voice overs. Nathan's just a goody-too-shoes. He does the wrong thing for the right reasons. Just like a damn politician.
