Can I say something here that some of you will disagree with? There are way too many procedurals on the air right now. Criminal procedurals, medical procedurals, criminal-medical procedurals...the networks are popping them out faster than Michelle Duggar gives birth. And now, we can add another potential procedural to the ever-growing list.
The new project, being developed for NBC, will star Gabrielle Union (Bring It On) as a detective who must race to save someone's life before it's too late. What's not clear from this description is if this saving will be during each episode or across the entire run of a season. What is clear is former X-Files writer and producer Frank Spotnitz will be working on development of the show for the Peacock network. This is not the first time Spotnitz and Union have worked together. They collaborated on the very short lived Night Stalker series back during the 2005-06 season.
While the concept sounds interesting, I see a few problems already. Should the hunt for the person whose life needs to be saved span the entire season there is a very good chance that viewers could lose interest quickly. Particularly if the series spans from September to May with a large winter break. Another issue I see is that this type of show would get lost amongst all of the other specialty procedurals that are out there right now. Other than the concept of the show itself there needs to be an additional hook. Maybe Union does her detective work topless. That would certainly bring in the male viewership! I'll hold back any additional judgment until more news of the show is released.

If the premise sounds interesting, does that mean you know more than that she has to race to save someone before it's too late? Isn't that Without a Trace? Or some CSI episodes. Or Numbers. Or Fringe. Or Eleventh Hour. It couldn't sound LESS interesting if they had made an actual effort to make it sound less interesting.
Boooooooooooooo. Well, I'll take back some ooooooooos, because at least its not a new reality show. Unless that is the twist! Gabrielle will REALLY be racing to save someone's life inside of an hour. I bet she can't do it.

Thank goodness somebody else says it. I don't need to solve a mystery in every 60 minutes of television drama that I watch. My guess is that these shows make people feel smart when they're finally given the last tidbit of withheld information for that "a-ha" moment. I'd rather watch some second rate cable reality TV than one of these shows. Although I'm not sure if that makes me a snob or a slob.
