Real Housewives of Atlanta pulls in ratings ... really?

Real Housewives of Atlanta Reunion SpecialLet me preface this post by saying that I recently covered Bravo's The Real Housewives of Atlanta for another site. But it was never any secret that I thought the housewives were self-serving rich girls who had no clue about what's really going on in the world.

Example: NeNe dissed her best friend, Kim, to the other housewives, but I will say NeNe had a better singing voice than Kim, who thought she could secure a record contract just because her sugar daddy, Big Poppa, forked over the cash.

Out of all of them, I thought DeShawn had the most loving, giving heart, but she was way too naive to try organizing a fundraiser for her charity (hey, if you've got the money, hire someone who knows what they're doing!). Her heart's in the right place, though.

Ok, all of that aside, I was surprised to read that the reunion special which aired this week drew 2.8 million viewers, beating out the series finale by 27%, making it the highest rated telecast to date for the "Real Housewives" franchise. Not only that, it's the first time a Bravo reality series cracked the 2 million viewer mark among adults in the 18 to 49 demo.

What's it all mean? That we like seeing rich, spoiled women fighting amongst themselves and spending money like it grows on peach trees while the majority of the world hunts for scraps of bread in the street? I wouldn't have such a big problem if the women had made the money themselves. But for the most part, it was given to them or they married into it.

Personally, I would rather live in middle America with real friends and real dreams than live in the world of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, where nothing seems the least bit real. Not that I have an opinion on it or anything.
