(S05E12) "She's treating me like she usually treats Johnny." - Vince
Things certainly weren't looking good for Vince. But in true Entourage style, something always works out. Despite the fact that this was one of the strongest episodes of the season, I really wish it had ended differently.
Season one ended with Vinny heading off to make Queens Boulevard. Season two? Aquaman. Season 3.1 ended with with Vince canning Ari and 3.2 ended with the boys heading down to Colombia to shoot Medellin. Then season four ended with the mess at Cannes. So in my mind, to even things out, we were due for another disaster ending for Vince and instead we arguably got his best outcome yet.
He's in Martin Scorsese's next pic - a re-imagining of The Great Gatsby and Vinny is playing Nick Carraway. Not bad for a guy who's last two efforts ended in a firing and severely bad reviews.
I think I would have preferred the cliffhanger though. Eric stays fired and Vinny stays in Queens - jobless. There was such a big deal made in this episode about Vince going back to basics (auditioning, etc.) and I was really hoping that was what we'd see; Vince having to rebuild himself in season six. Plus, (and I loved when this happened with Anna Faris) I wanted to see Eric in action with other clients. Look how hard he was busting his ass for Charlie in the one week(?) period that he wasn't Vinny's manager. I'd like to see Eric succeed without Vince for once.
Instead, Vinny's career is getting a re-boot and there's honestly no reason to think that Scorsese's next pic is going to tank. Vince's star is going to do nothing but rise in season six. We saw him fail... I guess I just wanted to see him fail a little more.
More thoughts on "Return to Queens Blvd.:"
- I'm glad that the Jamie-Lynn Sigler story continued. It's about time Turtle had something go his way. I loved when she flat out told Drama they were sleeping together. His face was priceless. However, the highlight was when Turtle's mom listened to her son and Jamie-Lynn having phone sex.
- I'm not glad that we heard nothing from L.B. and Nick. Eric is still representing them, right? How come they haven't called him wondering why the movie they wrote got shut down?
- Think we'll see any more of Cara, Vinny's old flame? I would think so since he'll be shooting in NYC.
- Even though Drama's history with Cousin Ronnie isn't very good, I think buying the bar was a smart choice. Plus it makes sense if you think about it - that was the ultimate clue that Vince would be working again by the end of the episode. Why? Because it's going to be the gang's new hang out and Johnny wouldn't have bought a bar if the writers planned on sending everyone back to LA right away.
- Despite everything, you do have to hand it to E. His perseverance with Gus Van Sant made the Scorsese pic possible. However, is that really a sign of good management? He had no idea Gus was going to talk with Marty. It was dumb luck!
- Vince finally showing emotion after Gus said "no thanks" was a great moment. He's been so stoic through all of this and he finally exploded.
- How pointless was that Michael Phelps cameo?
Now we wait, but I'm honestly not all that excited right. We know what it's like to see Vince on top and if my prediction is right, and his star does continue to rise, then there's only one more logical step - an Oscar. I don't know though... does Vinny strike anyone else as a potential Oscar nominee? We've got until summer '09 to think about it.

If the writers were set on this story line it should have been done over the course of ~3 episodes. Fire E in one, show each working independently in a second, then Vinny gets the movie in the third. The firing of E and subsequent rehiring within 3 min made the episode another with relatively little substance.

eric shouldn't have gone back to Vince. I wish the episode would have ended with E telling Vince that he was not going to be his manager anymore.

If Michael Phelps was going to bump into anybody on the street, it should have been Vince. One Aquaman to another.
I would have liked for the break between E & Vince to have lasted at least through the hiatus. Vince is too stand-up a guy to not acknowledge that E did play a role in him getting noticed by Scorcese, but he could have at least left him dangling a bit with the knowledge that he would be working on a serious A-List project while E was out in the cold.
I'm also hoping they come back to stay in New York for awhile. It would at least a whole different species of celebrity guest stars and cameos. Maybe even a few from the Broadway world?
And let's see Johnny do a role on 'Law & Order' or '30 Rock'! 'Fringe' or 'Life On Mars'!

I too wished they would have ended it differently, and I really thought they would. It just didn't make sense that they would resolve everything so fast, and like you said, it would have been much more interesting to see Vince start over from the beginning, audition and stuff like that.

this was one of my favorite episodes of the show's entire run. Any ep with the mom from Big is good, but Turtle's mom takes the cake! I think it was about time for a "feel good" season ending too.

It was a good episode marred by the ridiculously quick reunion between Vince and E. Vince blames Eric for his life at the lowest of points and yet the two are back together within five minutes. The writers created legitimate drama and shrugged it off like they had a change of heart a page later in the script. I agree with the post that it would have been interesting to see Vince have to audition for roles and sort of reboot his career. I also agree that Vince's best scene (maybe of the series) was when he threw the phone. Seriously, up until now, I just don't buy Vince as a good actor - heck, he doesn't even change his look for movies (sans the Medellin fat suit). We need more examples of good acting. His stuff from Smoke Jumpers? The German director may have been insane, but I didn't buy Vince either. He wasn't convincing. Anyway, I hope the writers can still surprise us.
I know Gary Cole episodes are a precursor for a bigger role in the upcoming season, but it was dropped terribly a couple episodes ago. He appears in one scene after Babs agrees to let him come on board. Seriously? We have a new character rushed into the storyline and then forgotten after joining the agency?

I was a bit disappointed with the lack of a cliffhanger at the end of this season. But, this was a dark season for Vince, so I think the writers wanted to give us some good news for a change.
Being in a Scorcese film is going to do nothing but great things for Vince's career, so I have to wonder what kind of struggles we will see in the next season. Maybe more from E, Drama, and Turtle instead?
LOVED the emotion from Vince. He basically hit rock bottom in that moment, and it was great to see.

I don't totally agree with you Josh, I think the reconciliation also was legitimate, I mean they've been friends for so long, what you tell someone when you're in a dark place doesn't matter, you just get over it ... it's just friendship.
Although, I have to say that to see Vince start again from the beginning could have been fun (cause we never actually got to see the beginning)
As for Vince performance, I didn't buy it either and I don't think he's that good of an actor (for a Scorsese or even for a tv show)...
For the dropped arcs, I was dissapointed about Drama since we haven't heard a single thing about his show (he sure does wear his hat thou).
Anyway, it was a great episode and a pretty good season.
9 months to go 'till season 6 !

What a great season finale for Entourage.
I think anyone complaining about the quick resolution between E and Vince should probably go back to the S1 finale. Vince, Drama, and Turtle basically grill E about what he can do for vince and then 5 minutes later E is bringing Vince's wallet to the airport, all is forgotten, they head off to shoot QB. It may have been a little rushed, but when is the last time all 4 of the boys were on top?

Am I the only one that understands that 5:12 was the last episode? The build up to the "divorce" between Eric and Vince was how a season should end, leaving cliffhangers around Turtle's love life, Ari's new agency player. Ideally the plot hints that Eric makes his tv-show happen - after Vince and him split, leaving Vince in a rot, with no career in sight - everyone is happy except for Vince!
But the 2 min makeup scenes at the end are clear to me, everyone ends up happy - sure there are loose ends, but nothing to bad to end of a show like Entourage.
I love this show, and would unhappy to see it go, but this is potentially how this show ends...
Anyone else scared?

You may not have caught it, but when the show ended, the announcer said that they are filming already for the new season, which will begin next summer.

Pip has a point, I didn't think about it. It does look like last-minutes adds to make the show end on a nice note. but since it was green-lighted for another 2 seasons, I guess that's not it.
Anyway, I thought the last 3 episodes were horrible. The entire build-up towards the cancelation of smoke jumpers could have been done in one episode (if not one half). For 3 episodes, we had nothing on turtle and drama. very, very boring stuff.
then finally, today was great, but I have to agree with the reviewer, bad, illogical ending.
Should E and Vince make up? Sure. But in no universe would they be back together as manager/client. That's just common sense. Was E lucky? Sure, but this is how hollywood works. You never know what's gonna happen (although it ususally doesn't happen so fast. In one day's time!).
Anyway, I would also have loved for Vince to be down a little longer. This is ridiculous, a Scorsese movie just like that?
Characters are supposed to work on their problems, figuring solutions through adversity and tough time. Not have a random bit of luck!
E and vince are supposed to get their friendship back, by realizing you don't mix business and pleasure, or that their friendship means more to them than any work. Not because lady luck struck them, and, oh well, since everything is good again, let's be friend again!

So 12 shows is a season? What garbage!! I was pi**ed. So we wait more than a year and then three months the show is out? Geez I hope no one hurt themselves making 12 whole shows in a row. How about a season actually heing a season - like 23 episodes? is that too much to ask? 13 maybe alright if they're hour-long (like the Sopranos) It's not like they're all so busy in their "off-season" they couldn't do more shows. And what - so things will be filmed in NY awhile while Jeremy Piven is on Broadway? Convenient.
This is the kind fo crap that makes me go from loving a show to hating it. And it's not devoted fans like us who keep a show on - its the rest who are never going to write into this blog - they're jsut going to stop watching teh show. To Doug et al - more shows - a "season" should last longer than 3 months!!

It's like the writers for Entourage are still on strike.
12 episodes and what happens:
The main part to try and get him on Smoke Jumpers, which then he's fired from on day 2.
We got no Drama/Turtle storylines in this season. Drama only got one storyline IMO when he broke up with his girl, and told The View about it
Turtle's relationship with Jamie-Lynn Sigler is off the charts unreal. Would never happen. Why not try and kickstart his music career again. Might be a complaint from Mr. Ferrara himself, but Turtle is not this cuddly guy... he smokes weed, likes porn and to play videogames, and he would've told the guys he was having sex with a celebrity like her for sure.
Early on in the season (episode 1 or 2?) we got to see Eric was taking on new clients, with Charlie (Bow Wow) but there was never really any time devoted to that story, unless to give Bow Wow a sex scene, and then maybe 30-60secs in this finale.
Drama is on the show, supposedly doing well. Why not let the audience see how well he's doing, let people recognize him, go to some events and things like that.
Nothing really happened in Ari's world either. He rejeced the studio job (how long can he expect Dana to do him favors for getting her that job). I expected to see some action when he got his Gary Cole hired (can't remember character name). Never got to see any real Hollywood clients like in early seasons (unless I'm forgetting)
Of course it's mainly about Vince, but this season I think was too focused on Vince, so much that they forgot the other characters.
The appearance of Dom was also ridiculous.
All in all, a very disappointing season.
