I'm almost afraid to watch the news anymore. Let's face it - there's awful, horrible, tragic news everywhere, and most of the time, that's what the networks focus on. Are they TRYING to get us all depressed? Because it's working! But I might start watching ABC News because they're launching a series called "Spirit of America" that will air weekly during World News With Charles Gibson. Ok, so it's only two- to three-minute segments once a week, but hey, it's a start. I'll give 'em that.
"Even with the economic crisis and the problems that affect so many people, we're trying to show that people can make a difference, both big and small," said World News executive producer Jonathan Banner.
Recent and upcoming segments include a program where fathers take a day off and spend it at their child's school; a Texas church's adoption program; and a recycling program in Massachusetts.
But once a week?! That's it?! Come on, people. You've gotta give us more to grab onto. In case you hadn't noticed, it's tough out here! And no, this probably still isn't enough to make me start watching the news.

CBS Evening News has had a "feel good" section since Katie has been on. Steve Hartman's Assignment America. These articles have always made be feel like all the news ain't bad. Also, recently, they have had Steve go back "On the Road" retracing Charles Karault's (sp?) series and showing how things have not changed so much. These are reasons I watch CBS Evening News and makes me think you haven't researched your article.

NBC & Brian Williams has been doing a segment just like this every Friday evening called "Making a difference". It's always suppose to be an upbeat, human interest type of story, intending to end the week on a good note. This has been on steadily since Williams took over from Brokaw, I believe.
