Today's stream of Smallville-related news continues. We reported earlier that the show's former producers, Al Gough and Miles Millar, are writing a movie version of the Robotech TV series. Now, it looks like their small screen predecessors are looking to the big screen for inspiration.

Actually, Smallville has never shied away from ripping off borrowing ideas and concepts from movies. Just last week, Chloe (Allison Mack) experienced a memory meltdown right out of Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This Thursday, the show will dip into J.J. Abrams territory with a monster attack shot in Cloverfield POV style. That's monster's name, of course, is Doomsday.

This will mark the first time fans will get a glimpse of Smallville's Doomsday in monster form (so far, we've had to settle for the Sam Witwer version). Want a sneak peek? Super scooper Michael Ausiello has posted clips from Thursdays episode, "Bride" on his EW.com blog. The clips reveal that the story will be told through the point-of-view of the cameraman filming Chloe's wedding to Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore). In a post-ceremony scene, just when the couple is about to cut the cake, Doomsday attacks.

In true Cloverfield fashion, the clip reveals little more than a silhouette of the monster, plus a leg and an arm here and there, but it's still pretty intense. The final clip shows most of the wedding guests lying bloody on the floor, either dead or severely injured. Chloe is also shown holding what seems to be Jimmy's lifeless body.

Judging by what's visible, the new Doomsday hasn't changed much from his comic book days, He still looks like a big, scary, spiky ogre, although I'm sure they ditched the matching green pants and boots combo from the comics. I doubt we'll see a clear shot of him once the episode airs, but I'm still looking forward to "Bride." I had some big doubts about Doomsday showing up in Smallville, but so far I've liked what I've seen. The mystery surrounding the character has been pretty compelling, and Witwer is great in the role.

I'm not too thrilled about the POV style. I get that the show runners want to save the big reveal for later, possibly a ninth season, but I wish they didn't feel the need to employ such a tired gimmick. But, that's part of Smallville's charm, I guess. If the show took itself more seriously, it probably wouldn't be as much fun to watch.
