(S07E19) The big question coming into the results show this week, obviously, was who would make it through to the finals. That, on its own, was probably enough to get most of the crowd to tune in. The powers that be could have just banked on it and tossed any old random segment out there to fill up the first 50 minutes of the show. Some Jimmy Kimmel here... a highlight reel there... the numbers would have still been huge. Lucky for us, that's not what they did, at all. It was the biggest musical event the show has ever seen. Along with those big results, we saw performances from Leona Lewis, John Legend, Julianne Hough, and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. If that wasn't enough, reigning champ Kristi Yamaguchi stopped by to dance. It made for a fun hour. The results, and a look at all of those performances, after the jump.

It really was a pretty spectacular lineup. But then, it's hard to go wrong when you have Aretha Franklin on the bill. A Rolling Stone poll has her listed as the greatest singer of the rock era, topping (2) Ray Charles, (3) Elvis Presley, (4) Sam Cooke, and (5) John Lennon. I'll not argue that point. It just doesn't get better than Aretha Franklin. She did two numbers, "Chain Of Fools" and "Respect." Both were fantastic. For the first one she was joined by Karina, Anna, Dmitri, and Louis. Kristi & Mark made their return to the ballroom for the second song, and Kristi looked like she'd be ready to compete in the finals again next week. Before we move on, please enjoy some vintage Aretha.
It's hard to follow the greatest singer of the rock era, but the rest of the musical guests were all very good. Leona Lewis did her hit, "Bleeding Love", while Maks & Karina performed. Lacey, Mark, and Derek danced while Julianne performed "My Hallelujah Song." That was the first time I've heard Julianne sing, and I came away rather impressed. It's not really my style of music, but she did a great job. It was also my favorite dance performance of the night. Finally, John Legend joined the party with his hit, "Green Light." Another solid entry, making for a great night of music and dance. This is how the results show should be done.
The only thing I would have changed was cutting the two taped packages. One focused on how the competition effects the families of the stars. Tom teased the other as "the finalists sit down to call each other out." They proceeded to compliment each other in a rather bland way. It's a shame that those made it to the big results show but the dancing kids were relegated to the recap hour.
Speaking of the kids, all three teams did an outstanding job. Hannah & Kirill performed a cha cha, after receiving a little advice from Tony. Maria & Mitchell had the samba, and Julianne stopping by to help out. And Craig & Samantha were joined by Maks before they took on the jive. It's too close to call, and all of them are deserving of the win. My vote, goes to Maria & Mitchell, and I'll be interested to see how that plays out next week.
And that brings us to the big results. Tom & Samantha started things off, in no particular order of course, by separating the four couples into the two that were moving on to the finals, and the two that were still in jeopardy through that one last commercial break. Lance & Lacey and Brooke & Derek were the first two couples that were safe. That left Cody & Julianne and Warren & Kym in danger.
In the end, this was the end of the line for Cody & Julianne. It was a great run for the youngster, but I think the complications with having to switch partners derailed him enough that he just couldn't get back from it. Cody said he couldn't explain the amazing journey he's had on the show, and went on to thank the network, the judges, and the fans. Of Julianne, he said words can't describe how much he appreciates her.
So, there we have it. Our finalists are Lance & Lacey, Brooke & Derek, and Warren & Kym. I'll be rooting for Lance & Lacey, but look forward to seeing how it all works out. See you then.

I think that it's going to come down to Lacey and Lance and Brooke and Derek. Warren has been able to have the focus be on the performance not the technique because there were others that did the same or worse than him, now you have the two more talented and precise dancers out there in Lance and Brooke. They both bring alot of grace and technique that I don't think Warren can hide from anymore.
All along I wanted Brooke to win but Lance has gotten hot at the right time. It's like in any sport if you get hot just at the end you can ride the wave to the championship. For those football fans, a perfect example is the NY Giants. They had an ok season overall and got hot and into a groove right at the end that propelled them through the playoffs to win the Super Bowl. Lance might be able to do the same. As long as Warren doesn't win I'll be okay with it because the other 2 definetly deserve it more based on week to week performances.

i am glad cody is gone. i think these three are the best. warren probably going home next week. carrie ann will keep voting for him she seems to have a crush on him. yes i think he is a good dancer. i hope lance keeps up the good work. he may take it. but i think brooke will get it. i said that from the begining of the show. we will see.

Looking strictly at the professionals, the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if TPTB will "let" Lacey win in her first season on the show - esp. considering Len's dislike of her style. Kym, on the other hand, is more than deserving - esp. considering some of the clunkers they have stuck her with in the past (e.g., Jerry Springer).

This has been a tough season for me. I really didn't care for the show until Clarice & Susan were gone! I really like Maurice because he worked so hard to improve.He was always up for a challenge. Then he was gone. So I've rooting for Lance & Lacey! I think Lance is very deserving.

Nice recap - I thought it was a very entertaining night and I looked forward to it all day (which I can't say I do for TV all that much). The live audience got a real treat - and they were so enthusiastic. It is fun to watch a live show with a real audience.
The sudden ascendance of Lance finally makes it all interesting.

Great show, and your review is spot on: this is what the results shows should all be like.
As for the finals, Brooke is still looking great, but Lance is suddenly making it very interesting.

This has been one of my favorite shows since its beginning. I just don't understand why Samantha is still a co-host with Tom. She adds absolutely NOTHING to the show and looks like she should be in an anorexic commercial. She tries to compete with the dancers by wearing fewer clothes every week. She has a tough time reading the Q-cards. However, if it wasn't for those cards, she would never have an intelligent statement. Why is she still there? I just don't understand. Tom looks like he could scream when she's talking.

I loved all the dancers,but Warren is number one in my book. Sure dancing is very hard, yet he seems to be enjoying it. He just warms my heart with his smile. Kym is so beautiful. She really makes him work hard and stay on his toes. Good Luck to all the dancers, But the winners are Warren and Kym.

I just hope that voters don't continue to vote for Warren -- who btw was NOT in the bottom 2. Those who love him love his personality no one says he's a great dancer and is that really reason to give someone a trophy for dancing? It really should be Brooke and Derek who have performed brilliantly throughout the season and Derek should at least get one because of his great choreography (and especially since his sister Julianne has two!). Glad that things are interesting that Lance has finally put it together. I hope it will be a one two showdown with brooke and Lance and hope that voters truly vote for the best dancer.
