(S02E07) "Viva Buymoria." - Morgan
The Jill Roberts trilogy continues. Last week we were introduced to Chuck's ex-girlfriend in an episode where, not only did Mr. Bartowski save the world (or, at least, the little part of the world surrounding him in California), but he also got the girl. This week we got to see more of the budding relationship between the two as well as a Charles who, for the first time in awhile, was feeling like a normal human being.
The question on everyone's mind was if the relationship could last between the two. Particularly with the uber-hot Sarah working very, very closely with Chuck on a daily basis. Well, if I told you now I would probably be canceled faster than My Own Worst Enemy. So, if you want to know the answer please click ahead.Somewhere deep down I know you knew that Jill was not what she was claiming to be. Even Allison had her concerns about Ms. Roberts during last week's review. As this week's episode progressed she began to show signs that she was too good to be true. Her forgiveness at catching Chuck with a half-naked Sarah was one warning note. One minute she was stomping off in anger, the next she was brushing it all aside and focusing on what flavor fruit juice powder her former boss used for a booby trap.
Sure, you could cough it up to youthful exuberance and the rush of excitement she felt as she got more involved with the case. Yet, the more she participated the less real she seemed. The final clue to her being a fake (other than her picture showing up on the data download) was her "kidnapping" at the hands of therogue Fulcrum agent. The way that it all went down had "setup" written all over it. No initial scream of surprise, no scuffle ensued with the kidnapper. Only a shout of 'Chuck, please help!", and a weak on at that, as soon as Chuck stepped out of the store door.
It's probably not a shock that this would happen to Chuck. Ever since the knowledge of the Intersect became firmly buried in his brain, Chuck's life hasn't been normal at all. So, the fact that Jill is a rogue special agent intent on killing him isn't a big piece of news. It's just enhances the fact that Chuck's life will probably never be normal again -- even when he does get the intersect data removed.
Then again, you have to wonder if Mr. Bartowski will want to return back to normal life since he's becoming a better agent after each case. Take this week's episode as an example. Being more cerebral than their normal cases, Chuck was the agent who came out as the hero thanks to his knowledge of puzzles and trivial data that most of us only wish we could use in normal conversation. He still has some weaknesses that would prevent him from becoming a full-fledged agent. Namely, his emotions interfere with the importance of a case, especially when it involves someone he cares about.
Meanwhile, back at the Buy More...or, as we shall now call it: Buymoria. There were a few turning points involving the relationships of the store employees. First was an important conversation between Chuck and Morgan after Morgan put his job on the line to protect his best friend. After finding out he was dating Jill once again Morgan was understandably pissed off and wondered what else Chuck wasn't telling him. There was the slightest hesitation by Chuck that made the viewer think he was about to tell Morgan what he was doing all of the time away from the store. It didn't happen this week; however, from spoilers that were released about the show a few months ago, Morgan may start working on a number of cases later this season.
The other turning point was between Morgan and Emmett. Since he came to the store, Emmett has been gunning for Chuck to account for his actions and whereabouts to the point that he's been threatening those under him. Well, that reign of terror should now be over thanks to Morgan. Using a combination of quick thinking and blackmail, Chuck's best friend has made sure that Emmett will not be bothering Buy More's true leader anymore. And, as a lesson to be learned, Fuzzy Navel wine coolers are extremely potent and should not be drunk carelessly.
One last thing to mention before I leave you this week. Did anyone else notice the cartoon that was running on the Buy More TVs? If was What's Opera, Doc?, the classic Bugs Bunny cartoon from 1957. Directed by Chuck Jones, the animated short parodied the operas of 19th century composer Richard Wagner. Why was this cartoon used? Well, it connected with the title of this week's episode as well as the opera house where a good portion of the action took place. See, I do watch the same show you do!
Next week on Chuck - the Jill Roberts trilogy concludes, and not in a good way.

As soon as they started running faces, I knew what was going to happen. Once I saw Jill up on the screen, it occured to me that it made perfect sense. After all, Jill left Chuck for Bryce when Bryce was in the CIA at Stanford. It's obvious she either followed him into the CIA or Bryce joined because she was already an agent.

While I still think Larkin is a douche, he has proven one thing to be absolutely true. He cares about Chuck. He once said "Everything I have done I've done to protect you" to Chuck. Does that mean that Larkin knew about Jill? I thought he was just full of crap. Now, I think Larkin really does care about Chuck. The one kink in that? Why get him involved with the Intersect at all? Doesn't seem so protecting.

Ok....love reading your reviews each week. But you failed to mention 2 of the funniest moments in TV --- the "kiss" in last week's episode, and the fabulous High C this week!!! Casey is the best!! Absolutely love this show!! It is really too much fun, and what I look the most forward to on TV this year!

There was a subtle Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference by Jill. She remarked about Ge using Vogon poetry in one of his puzzles.

I completely forgot about the "Hi-C" reference in this week's episode.and totally missed the Vogon reference. I should have gotten that one since I'm listening to Stephen Fry's audio recording of "Hitchiker's Guide".

Also, when Chuck and Jill talk next to the cage in the back of Buy More, there's a big 42 on the background.

I totally picked up the Hitchhikers Guide reference from Jill this week. I was really happy they answered the question of why nobody questions where Chuck is all day, he's never at work, comes and goes as he pleases, but now we know he just calls it "offsite intallations"

Was it just me or did there seem to be an Alias reference to the Rambaldiesqueness of some of Laflour's puzzles?
Rambaldiesqueness: that is a word you don't type every day!

I wasn't surprised my suspicion Jill wasn't destined to be even as much as a half-season storyline. If Chuck were going to have a steady, in order to simultaneously relieve AND increase tensions, why would they cast such a plain, uninteresting looking actress? Casey's my favorite character, but Morgan's gaining on him; so can hardly wait to see those two interact when Chuck let's Morgan in on his spy life. Where'd Chuck's sister's fiance go?

I missed the last 10 minutes! And it sound like it was the most important part of the episode. I gotta remember to watch that tonight.

I noticed the cartoon playing on the TVs at the Buy More, too. Genius! Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit...

I noticed "What's Opera, Doc?" but was bugged by how the short's story jumped around due to the two angles used to shoot the scene. It's just a pet peeve of mine, like all the "Ben-Hur" stuff in "Any Given Sunday."

If Jill was rogue, that means she was CIA originally. Wouldn't the general have known that???
And what do you mean "it concludes and not in a good way"?

Nope...the general is Homeland Security to begin with, before they started "playing nice" with the CIA. The "other" general who was killed in the season premiere is CIA.

I'm still shocked. When the agents started to upload the data, and the images were changing from Chuck/Jill to Casey/Sarah, I started like "no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no".
It was, as usual, a good episode. For you, american geeks, it's so bad that TBBT and Chuck are on at the same time... and a good reason to have a TiVo.
