I watched Guiding Light every single day for a couple of decades. I never thought there would come a time when I stopped watching it (no matter how pathetic that probably sounds), but then the show got rid of cast members that were vital to the show, the writers created plots and characters that were paper thin and just lousy, and they started screwing up with the show's history, too. Those are three things that are unforgivable in a soap opera. But things might be getting better at Guiding Light. After several years and lots of negotiations, Grant Aleksander is returning to the show as Philip Spaulding.
When we last saw Philip, he was hiding out after going a little nutty and kidnapping people and indirectly causing the death of his favorite uncle. No idea on how Philip will come back, but if anyone from the show is reading this, could you please have him get back with Beth (and make her character less annoying), have him be best buds with Rick again, and drop the whole "Philip is a crazy bad guy" plot you had him stuck in during his final months on the show? It just didn't make sense. Aleksander has signed a long-term contract and starts in January.
Now, if they'd only stop filming the show the way they do now and return to some sort of, you know, normalcy, I might watch the show regularly again. But I really have to catch up on who is married to who, who died and why, and who has amnesia and/or a twin.

I felt horrible that I dumped even following the storylines on this show, because it was something I started watching with my grandmother when I was really young. I loved Phillip when I was in high school. I don't know if I could go back even for him though!

I, too, used to watch GL religiously. I still catch it about 3-4 times a year and can usually figure it out. I saw "Harley" on a different show the other day flipping through. I hate it when they do that.

I hate the new outside format. Can't they please start taping inside a studio again? Some of the shots looks like the taping is inside a trailer. Are the trailers doing double duty, ie stars trailer as well as living space for the characters? I now tape all week and if I have time I will watch and if not my delete button goes to work.

I have watched Guiding light from the beginning, practically. I quit watching because the show just wasn't good anymore, and I hate the new format. Hate it! The Spaulding manison is pathetic. Unless this change I will not go back and until I see some really good characters, I won't be back. Still watch the other shows on CBS.

I hate the new format also.I was very young listening to show on radio with my Grandmom. I have been a viewer since the beginning. This is the worse I have ever seen. Reva has to be 50 years old and having a baby by yet another man.She should go on a diet, looks awful.Hate the aussies and the whole plot around them. Please get new writers.

I have watched GL since 1975 but recently stopped watching due to losing many main characters and the format in which it is filmed. I hate the fact that it looks like a two year old is filming. I prefer filming that takes place in the sets and I must agree the Spaulding mansion is pretty pathetic. Not the mansion we used to see for years. All the rooms in every scene look like they are filmed in closets.
I am thrilled however, that Grant Aleksander is coming back. I've loved him since the first time I ever set eyes on him (whether he's been good or bad).
