(S02E11) "Guys, I can't breathe." - Jenny
This quote said by Jenny wasn't the best quote of the week. However, it was the one I have been waiting to hear for weeks! As you know, if you've been reading my reviews, I did not enjoy Bad Jenny one bit so it was about time Jenny came back home and get her life back in order. As much in order as one's life can be on Gossip Girl that is.
As much as I hated most of the scenes featuring Bad Jenny, I must admit that I loved the scenes during which Rufus says he loves her, when Jenny appears in the Humphreys' place, the trio hugging it out (see picture above) and the family dinner. I don't expect everything to be peachy in Jenny's life tomorrow morning in GG world. She still has issues to deal with with Rufus and has to decide what to do with her clothing business. She also has to catch up in her studies and decide if she'll go back to school or continue to be home schooled. And she has to deal with her love life! If you ask Jenny, she'll answer "What love life?" That's because she hasn't read Nate's love letter yet and thinks their relationship, or whatever they had, is over but, thanks to Vanessa snooping around, we know what the last paragraph of that letter says:
"Now that your bother knows about us I have to stay away from you. But I don't want to. I really care about you. I just don't know what to do." - Nate
Vanessa may decide to destroy the letter so Jenny never finds out. But now that Nate is back in town, he'll surely bump into Jenny sooner or later and they'll have to deal with their feelings. He doesn't know that Jenny didn't read the letter, so Nate may inquire about her feelings and what she thought of the letter. Since in the books Jenny and Nate date and because Jenny needs a few bumps in the road ahead, it wouldn't surprise me to see Nate and Jenny date in secret at first, so Dan doesn't know, and then out in the open.
One reveal that I didn't see coming is that of Lily going to a sanatorium when she was 19. I'm as curious as Bart is to know why she ended up there. However, we have very different reasons to want the truth to come out. I blame curiosity. Bart clearly wants the info to somewhat blackmail Lily in staying with him. Bart needs the Van Der Woodsens more than they need him. Having a beautiful wife standing by his side during his travels and being able to tick off the "married" box on forms help make Bart look more trustworthy, at least from his point of view. Since Lily didn't hesitate to leave their home to have Thanksgiving with Rufus (you know Bart knows, or will soon know, where she went), Bart surely knows she won't hesitate to divorce him if he pushes the envelope slithly further. Bart needs to prevent that while staying in control and being informed; thus, blackmailing her is probably the only way he can achieve his goal.
Other tidbits of interest:
- Another John Shea appearance! I wouldn't be against to him moving to the Upper East Side with his French boyfriend. As showned more than ever this week, Blair needs her parents near by to support and love her. Having her father be an ocean away is not best for Blair to continue growing the conscience she received as a gift last week. Plus, having Papa Waldorf and his boyfriend try to raise Blair with Eleanor and Cyrus could provide fun storylines!
- Talk about a Thanksgiving miracle! The Captain agreeing to turn himself in. He either really truly loves Nate and didn't want to lose him or he has connections with the FBI and knows he'll be able to escape eventually. Since I want Nate to have a break for a few weeks, I hope it's the former and not the latter.
- Even if Aaron decided he was a one woman's man, didn't read Serena's file and agreed to let her reveal what she wanted about her past when she was ready, I still don't like the guy. I'm still waiting for a nasty reveal about him.

Yay for this episode. Definitely tied up a few frustrating storylines (Bad Jenny, Nate's father) and provided more intriguing ones (Lily's past, Jenny/Vanessa/Nate).
Plus it was just nice seeing the majority of the characters HAPPY. Woo.

Gossip Girl is one of those shows I turn into whenever I remember to but I am definitely intrigued with the Nate/Jenny/Vanessa triangle - especially since Chuck and Blair have taken a step back from one another. I do not like Bad Jenny at all and I hope she starts to slowly return to the Jenny she used to be on the show.

I agree. Though I hated Dan with a passion too. Serena deserves so much better than the losers she's been with. Heck, I'd tell her to get back to the Nate bandwagon if it wasn't so full already.

i was behind and i just finished watching this episode...what bothers me really is that nobody anywhere seems to wonder why nate sent snail mail? what the hell? there's no logical explanation for that except for plot twist but lets be honest. twenty first century teenager in new york...twenty first century teenager anywhere in the developed western world sending a letter is just...ridiculous. he has a phone...im sure he could get access to email. it makes the both them seem like idiots saying "He/she hasn't spoken to me in weeks." lol, thats cause you're busy sending handwritten letters through the us postal service. seriously, when was the last time anyone under 40 sent a handwritten letter to a friend to tell them something important or keep in contact (barring extremely unusual circumstances or sentimental reasons)? im open to any logical explanation i just havent found one.
